(41,832 posts)This is a recent phenomenon, guessing the increase in White Shark population has driven them to come further into the BAY.

(2,382 posts)... that the trained sea lions they see are all females. A bull sea lion is as much as 4 times the size of a full-grown female, with a commensurate attitude. When I lived in Santa Barbara years ago, I came across the carcass of a mature bull minus his head. The bites looked like an orca got to him. I've always loved these beauties.

(2,382 posts)... the very strong El Nino has warmed the Pacific considerably, so krill have moved farther offshore and north, and the fish that eat krill have followed them, so the sea lions have to travel farther to feed, leaving their young alone and starving until a parent can return. Bad situation. A more knowledgeable marine biologist can probably tell us more.
