(24,010 posts)That's what Bernstein said! And it's rather upsetting to ME!
Why aren't they for it? They don't have to be for Bernie, necessarily, to be for the movement for economic justice that he has sparked. Why on earth wouldn't they be FOR this dramatic upsurge of youthful participation? For that matter, why on earth wouldn't they be FOR curtailing Wall Street and the Banksters; FOR providing free college tuition to give the poor a chance, for godssakes; FOR expanding Social Security, to lift the poor elderly out of stark poverty; FOR Medicare for all? Are they not Democrats? Have these not been the goals of the Democratic Party for over half a century?
It seems like the Obama administration was LYING that they couldn't get a public option into Obamacare because of Republican obstruction. It sounds like they weren't for it! It was not even a thought in their heads, let alone something they tried to fight for.
I've no reason to doubt that Berstein has "access," and it seems pretty obvious that he is floating this worry about Clinton's campaign out there either on behalf of some White House faction or possibly on behalf of Obama himself. In any case, it is shocking that the "White House" (whoever Berstein spoke to) is--and certainly seems to be--against economic justice.
Also, Berstein seems to be saying that they (whoever they are--people within the administration) would almost rather that Clinton's campaign had been able to COVER UP her deep ties to Wall Street and the Banksters, rather than stupidly accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars for "speeches" to the most moneyed and the most corrupt financial institutions in the country and the world (--moneyed with OUR money!). They're not so much worried about these corrupting ties as they are about the public finding out!
Jeez.

(2,145 posts)And he only really started trying in the last part of his Presidency. I'm not saying he hasn't done a fairly good job but too late and too little and none of it progressive. Who is Progessive? Check out the progressive caucus. Those are the Progressives. Except for Sherrod Brown who went over to the dark side. He's history in my book.
