(12,882 posts)I concur with EVERY word you've said here. Simply having a (D) next to your name is NOT a defining point. Fact is, I could easily come up with other terms that these (D)s could stand for - none of them flattering, of course.
So MANY potential voters out there - duped by the flash and dazzle of 30-second propaganda bites as well as outRight lies - there's NO chance for a voice of reason and genuine compassion to elbow past deception and bullshit. In this nation of Rambo-esque - trample the meek and plunder what's left - thinking, too many dolts are gleefully cutting off their noses to show their faces who's boss. And doing so to prove their with the "winning team" instead of the wussies. If they'd have paid attention in Bioloigy class, they'd maybe realize that NO ecosystem where there's only predators can last too long. Too bad the Justice Party can't get some traction. We NEED a fresh broom to work with.

NOTHING is going to "change".
You will know them by their WORKS,

(46,585 posts)I really like Cenk but too frequently his emotions overrule reality, and the reality here is that Pres Obama does not have the power to overturn a USSC ruling. Either the USSC reverses the decision by making a contradictory decision on a current case - or - Congress AND the States can overturn it by amending the Constitution.
Railing against Citizens United at the 2010 SOTU address was probably the most attention the president could bring to the issue.

(27,461 posts)im not sure if you watched the video, but this is in response to an action by John MCain and 22 state AGs, filing briefs to the Supreme Court arguing against Citizens United. I dont know if Cenk mentioned it but Sheldon Whitehouse also joined them. It seems to stem from a case in Montana which is headed to the SCOTUS.
Regarding the constitutional amendment, Cenk has formed a PAC dedicated to getting such an amendment passed, that corporations are not people and therefore do not have first amendment rights.

(46,585 posts)Cenk completely misses the magnitude of the POTUS chastising the Supreme Court sitting right in front of him at the SOUA seen on national TV by millions. No reasonable person would conclude that he "just doesn't give a damn." Regarding the briefs referenced, I don't know anybody privy to what the Justice Dept is doing or not doing on this.
I like Cenk, always have, but suggesting O has no problem with Citizens United and that he just doesn't give a damn is straight-up horseshit. His rant was driven 5% on facts and 95% on emotion. Big guy needs to hug it out.

(57,936 posts)He has not done much to support a constitutional amendment to change it.
A speech, a statement in the State of the Union and then what? Not much if anything. This should be a priority.

(27,461 posts)and you're right, the RW bashed him over it. Especially the Chamber of Commerce.
He decided to go with the bashers:

President Obama could take action right now to help clean up our election system. Last month, we published a list of different steps Obama could take immediately, including issuing executive orders and using the S.E.C. to require publicly traded companies to disclose political spending for investors. But as The Hills Mike Lillis reports, the administration appears to be abandoning the idea of issuing an executive order mandating that government contractors disclose their campaign spending:
A year ago, the White House composed a draft executive order that would have forced potential government contractors to reveal their political spending as a condition of submitting bids. But roughly 12 months later, no final order has been issued, and supporters and critics alike say theyve seen no signs such a change is forthcoming.
Government contractors, including big military companies and for-profit enterprises that depend on taxpayer funds, are known for using large sums of money to buy influence.
Obamas capitulation can be seen as a product of intense lobbying from K Street interests. Lobbying front groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which represents major government contractors like CSC and United Technologies, led the effort to block the disclosure executive order. A top Chamber lobbyist even compared the disclosure idea to war, saying that his organization would fight the rule just as allied forces fought Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in Libya.
