I also liked the way the Obamas greeted her. It was sincere and not a hint of patronizing as people often to when the meet older people.

I know she is so proud. You can hear it in her voice. None of us ever ever EVER thought that we would see the day in our lifetimes or could imagine it in multitudes of future generations' lifetimes... and she made it long enough to not only see it, but to actually experience it first hand.

and given the horrors that Raygun unleashed on this country that we are still trying to emerge from, including the end of the Fairness Doctrine and broadcast deregulation that solidified the RW takeover of the media (among other things), and given the dearth of black politicians in positions that could feed the Presidential candidate pool (like Governor or Senator) - all of this meant that the odds were little to none. I voted for Jesse Jackson in both his 1984 and 1988 Democratic Party primary runs, notably because he stayed in these races long enough to last through to the "late-in-the-process" PA primaries. But after the Paul Simon fiasco in 1988 where Simon was asked and refused to direct his delegates to Jackson after he dropped out (and ironically, David Axelrod was involved in Paul Simon's run), and given that later, Jackson was left to troll the Senate as a "shadow Senator" standing at the entrance to the chamber to underscore the disenfranchisement of D.C., I knew that we still had a long long long long way to go.

However, if anything, I am glad that we all did get to see that day.
