(24,331 posts)He promote "therapies" which are fundamentally anti-scientific, such as claims that meditation prevents cancer, "miracle cures" by prayer, "energy healing," etcetera.
His advice is about as scientifically sound as someone who tells you that if you get cancer you must have offended God, so repent and he'll cure you.

Did you watch/listen to the video?

I'd like to see a double blind study proving that prayer can help prevent the recurrence of cancer.

(15,481 posts)of disease. Any type of stress reduction boosts the immune system. They are teaching meditation in pretty much every hospital now. UCLA medical center has an entire department, and kaiser permanent teaches it through it's health education center. i can't do it, but it IS scientifically proven to
work.
Everything on your list, except for prayer, actually works. and prayer probably does for people who believe in it, in the same way, by boosting their immune systems.
yes there is a connection between what you think and disease....

(33,982 posts)It need only be double-blind, and specifically about cancer, and I will accept it.

(15,481 posts)mechanism in our bodies wreaks havoc with our immune system, in all ways. mediation is one of the only ways to stop the fight or flight response in most epople. Again, I can't do it (meditate) but there are studies all over the place, and it is being used in hospitals because it works. google the UCLA medical center "mindfulness' Center, or meditation center. It is there for patients and for doctors. including those with cancer.

(1,412 posts)based on your beliefs. The scientific evidence that healthy diet/nutrition and exercise can help keep us healthy, is well established. Really, just common sense.
If prayer helps some people with strong Christan beliefs, so be it.
Extremism either way, is dangerous.
AtheistCrusader
(33,982 posts)Yes, I happen to be an atheist.
All you need do to convince me prayer works, is to show me a double blind study that proves it.
It's been attempted. To my knowledge, no one has been able to do it.

I guess my wife got breast cancer because she didn't pray hard enough...
...sounds like bullshit to me...

(9,696 posts)I didn't even hear him say it, it was not the main statement of his thesis.
If he had gone down the prayer path in this, it would have been over for me.
