"...something is going on here!"
I always thought the reason that the title of this website was the 'Democratic Underground' because it was willing to be open to the non-mainstream ideas, the counter-culture views, the anti-establishment ways of doing business. I hope my initial impressions remain true to form as this election continues into June.
DU has been a tremendous forum for the everyone, especially those that run counter to the establishment. Good on DU for that!!!

Howard Dean the paid politician to support Hillary says Bernie can't win the nomination. Bernie numbers against the GOP are meaningless. Howard Dean

(13,297 posts)to be fair, they have NO IDEA of the power of the internet and are now looking like the shills they are, and you will continue to see the grassroots push out the big money controlled politics for real-people politics and voters who want what's best for America, not for their corporate employer

(13,297 posts)his bought-and-paid-for commentaries are so disingenuous and his blanket defenses of false corporate narratives SO weak, that he has truly slipped into the 'Establishment Zone'. An ugly, ugly slide.
sublimecabbie
(14 posts)that Dean has never slipped into that zone, but rather he was there the whole time. If the Clintons, Bushes, and Obama taught me anything, it's that these are sociopaths who can tell a lie with the straightest of faces. I'm sure Dean was no candidate for the people.

With all the information about her so readily available, how any reasonable person could not have, at the very least, serious, serious doubts about Hillary Clinton is truly beyond my comprehension. My feelings about her are very similar to my feelings about Howard Dean. I was once a huge fan of hers too. Then after the Iraq War vote there was great disappointment for me, after years more it turned to disgust. Should she win the nomination I will also feel anger. A lot of it. Anger that she should inflict herself on this country, and an even greater anger that she robbed us of the opportunity of having a real champion in the White House. I emphasize "real" champion. One who won't betray us, or one who won't roll over and stop fighting for us. Bernie isn't going to surprise anyone and suddenly become a corporatist, and though he will certainly face enormous resistance, he will not stop fighting for us. If it's the only option left, I believe he would make unprecedented use of the bully pulpit to make people understand what was truly in their best interests. He's been fighting for the weak, the unlucky, the powerless, and the vulnerable his whole life. He's not going to suddenly stop during his presidency.

(11,841 posts)just like the other GOP candidates do better against Hillary than Trump. Yet both sides are (so far) picking the 2 least liked candidates. Its a very odd election year

(1,217 posts)party is going to have to deal with--the fact that Bernie is NOT going to drop out. To paraphrase---this revolution or whatever you want to call it is real and the DNC had better find a way to deal with it because it will change the party.

.that's what I thought Democratic Underground meant too. Super progressive and thus labeled as subversive, by the mainstream Establishment. Took it as the Great Restoration.

(13,297 posts)I could envision in any other business if momentum started to go against your own personal preferences (Skinner is pro-Hillary), it would be emotionally very easy to convince yourself to just start tweaking things around the edges to make it less-easy for opposing voices to be heard. He has done very, very little of that so it has been to his credit that the board is as 'DEMOCRATIC' as it has remained 'UNDERGROUND'. Just one look at MSNBC's coverage will tell you how influence from corporate folks at the top can EASILY shift the advantage away from what they don't want to see happen.
Again, Kudos to Skinner for his ability to put personal politics on the side and let the 'Democratic' part shine above all else.

(16,190 posts)I appreciate that about Skinner as wel.
If you follow the stated rules, you are generally okay. And technologically it is a very nice site (thank you Elad).
No prediction about the future, though - if it appears to half of us that "there's something rotten in Denmark" when the nominee is eventually chosen, a chasm will arise.
The establishment usually gets what the establishment wants.
Like the fact that I have been blocked from Bernie forums for asking position questions.....agree on the openness

(2,336 posts)It is a fan forum for Martin Clunes. I posted today-"Dear Europe, bear with us. This will be over soon and we will be back to normal." One friend from the UK replied that a lot of her friends over there are sick of their prime minister and are hoping they will get a Bernie. I am hoping we will have a world-wide revolution.

(1,365 posts)As a strong Bernie supporter, I admire and am grateful for Skinner's reasonableness. Since he supports Hillary, being reasonable can't always be easy. I also appreciate how quick and easy it is to get the news because of the glitchless mechanics of this site. Everywhere else annoys me.
