(384 posts)i think thus actually happened three or four times. we were in the back but near the end people were streaming away from the lights up front saying it was maybe 20 degrees hotter up there. people were yelling, "Bernie take off your jacket". it was an interesting moment of genuine compassion from the crowd. i understand how people twist this into "cult" claims but the simple fact is, people do love him. I've been a DFLer for over 30 years and never witnessed this level of connection and caring for a candidate before.

(5,141 posts)He's motivating people to exercise kindness and compassion toward their fellow man-quite the difference between him and the evil yam on the other side.

(3,702 posts)It is also the fact that he expects his other supporters to show that same respect, holding up his hand to silence them when a few eager ones start to make noise.
The difference between Sanders and Trump is so stark - calm and respectful vs a fevered frothy anger.

(11,945 posts)Bernie knows that he is the central figure in this crowd and as soon as he saw there was a problem, he called out for a medic and waited to be sure it was taken care of. He did it without stopping to think; his instincts were correct.
Hill would have looked to her paid aides/protectors to handle it, then gotten on with her talk and promptly forgotten about it.
Bernie has a personal sense of authority and responsibility for what's going on around him and he cares.
Bernie feels connection to others. His opponent does not.

ALSO - listen closely at about 50 seconds in. the crowd is a little restless, a little hushed, and some guy yells "FREEBIRD!"
So, as requested, here's FreeBird!:

(2,983 posts)This is someone who - over and over again - practices what he preaches... compassion. I'm voting for Bernie because of his policies and ideas - but I believe they come from a place of genuine decency and human compassion. I've never seen anything like it in a politician. This is what makes him strong - it is a big part of what makes his candidacy strong, and it is where the focus needs to be, I believe. On human decency and compassion, on the value of empathy, kindness, to gain strength from each other. To put it simply: Bernie gets it.

(4,176 posts)from him by the actions of supporters who push the other side so far that reacting with crap about Bernie is the result.
Like the free stuff crap, as in pretending he wants free stuff, which he doesn't.
He is such a good man it breaks my heart knowing many good people arent seeing it, but I know WHY they arent.
We dont deserve Bernie, or some dont.
