(2,975 posts)and this isn't political at all....
when I first saw the thumbnail he looked like Glenn Beck.
And now I want a satiric movie with Tim in a Glenn like role.
I wonder why he and Sarandan broke up. They're always on the same page.

(89 posts)Did anyone tell Tim it was political rally?
The speech content seems okay, the delivery is very boring. I could not watch but a part of it.

(2,065 posts)Overall, I liked Tim's speech, but I had an issue with his choice of words regarding political pragmatism, which I believed he used way too much. In the current Democratic primary campaign, yes - probably political pragmatism is the right phrase to use to describe the message of the DNC party establishment to the Bernie supporters, who they see as been rather dreamy eyed and quixotic: Bernie has no chance in the real world of getting the nomination, so get behind Hillary as the presumptive nominee. But when I think of the Iraq War, political pragmatism is not quite the right term, because actually, there was nothing pragmatic or realistic about the Bush / Cheney administration's war plans for Iraq - it was like they were living in Fantasyland! In my book, going along with the administration at that time was not pragmatic at all, if by pragmatic you mean practical and realistic. But it definitely was political expediency if you went along with the administration. Tim used that phrase once or twice, but he could have used it a lot more, especially when talking about the War in Iraq. But he elected to use the phrase "political pragmatism" to thematically weave the various strands of his talk together, starting from our current political situation, for better or worse.

(20,453 posts)I find NOTHING embarrassing about what he said.
Does everyone think you have to be a carnival barker to address people? How ignorant to be freaked out about the English language in what should be normal context.

(8 posts)but sometimes pragmatic is settling when you hit a wall -- or create one!
For too many years I have been apologizing for Democratic politicians settling for very little. They don't undo bad legislation when they get in. They don't add amendments to fix the abuses. They compromise before they discuss an issue so they end up with far less. Most people see it as the Democrats having no 'backbone'. Even the 'balls' they put on trucks to show how embarrassing Congress was did nothing to change the actions.
So Bernie stepped onto the Democratic Platform -- where it used to support 99% because no one else was there.
That is the Democratic Party I joined.
