2. I kind of have to split the difference here...

The workers should never have left that message, but having worked in a retail environment, I'm also not a fan of customers who come in at the last minute (that generally extends the time the workers need to be there well past the regular closing time).

It seems to me that the Dominos franchise should have a cutoff time for delivery orders and clearly state when it is.

3. Will say this, I used to work in a small specialty grocery store. People would pull up after locked
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:09 PM
Apr 2016

up the doors after working from 6 AM to Midnight at times, and expect you to open the door. We usually did, but jeeez folks. I remember one lady who said all she needed was some milk. Let her in, and 30 minutes later she was still walking around with a buggy.

To this day, I will not go in any store that is even close to closing. It's just rude. Nor will I sit in a restaurant drinking coffee while the tired staff is trying to get out.

I want to cut nurses some slack, but I really learned to dislike people who didn't respect closing time.

5. When I was in high school, I delivered pizza for a place called "Pizza Man"
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:17 PM
Apr 2016

This was in Long Beach area of southern California, circa 1970

Pizza Man would advertise that it would deliver pizza "until 3 in the morning." That was its slogan: "Pizza Man. He delivers until 3 in the morning!" But that meant if a customer called in at 2:55 am, we took the order, made and cooked the pizza, and delivered it. And with cleanup after the pizzas were delivered, we might not leave for home until 4 or 4:30am.

(But we got to keep the pizzas that were ordered as a joke! )

6. OMG another tattle-tale media story
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:18 PM
Apr 2016

Why is this news? Some self-centered worker wrote a rude, stupid message. Yes, the employee was a complete moron, but why does this rise to the level of a media story?

A nurse (or nurses) decided to call the media, to inform them that someone made them sad.

That's just as petty as what the moronic Dominos employee did.

We've become a nation of tattle tales and the media is too happy to report these dumb stories.

Pizzagate, people...it's Pizzagate!

Like the waiter who referred to his customer on the bill as "Lady Chinky eyes".

10. I am glad that you posted this story

because it shows just how ridiculous so many people have become.

The Dominos person, who is getting paid, is acting like an idiot. The nurses who tattled to the media are acting like buffoons. And the media members who report on this as "news" are acting like fools.

14. It wasn't the nurse
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:30 PM
Apr 2016

it was a friend of the nurse. The nurse took the pic and sent it to a friend who either contacted the media or put it up on social media. It's a small town TV station trying to cover the local news, cut them some slack, it may have been a slow news night.

Any delivery restaurant should cut a hospital some slack. The staff could have been so busy that they didn't notice the time. I also know that many restaurants move their clocks 5 minutes ahead so that the customers will move out sooner, as do a lot of retail businesses.

but whoever alerted the media was ridiculous.

This is a ridiculous story all the way around, no matter how slow the news day.

11. How much did he tip?
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:24 PM

Don't answer the phone... The manager most likely sent the delivery person home and had to deliver him or herself. Remove the plank from your eye... I'm sure next time you'll go to the Hospital cafeteria.

Smart places close deliveries 1/2 to one hour before store closes, to avoid this issue.

13. You do know not all Hospital

Cafeterias are open all night nor do some nurses have a place to stash their lunches, and if you are an ER nurse, forget taking a lunch break on a busy night. You may as well head over to Denny's (if there is even one nearby) or some other 24 hours restaurant and then wait 20 to 30 minutes for your food after your shift. Oh, and there are those times you have to work a double shift cause someone called in sick, and yes, that happens.

12. I don't think it's necessarily a rude msg... On the other hand,
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 06:25 PM

the store could set a policy that they won't deliver anything ordered 15 mins before closing. They do in my area. They won't take an order that's not for pickup 15 mins before closing because it sends a driver out and normally that keeps at least 2 persons on staff, ovens on, clean up process longer... And most of the time the managers are working on a budget and getting shit from an owner about closing times and paying people to stay an hour after the door closes. It's a very simple policy to enact. And most people who have a clue, would understand that it is rather rude to wait until 5mins until the staff is supposed to lock the doors to send out delivery people... Especially, if it's a slow night.

And I don't see the note as nasty... They are just asking if they could order a bit earlier. Would the nurses not have known at 11:45 that they wanted a pizza? They said they would appreciate it if they could... Not even saying that they wouldn't.

17. My knowledge of what its like to be a nurse comes from watching Nurse Jackie (May she rest in peace)
Tue Apr 5, 2016, 07:16 PM
Apr 2016

Based on that, I have sympathy for the nurses and the stress under which they work.

On the other hand, working for shit wages, peddling shit pizza, I can imagine makes one looking forward to when the clock strikes midnight and you get to go home after a shitty day, making shitty wages....... then comes the call at 11:55.

Both participants deserve consideration.
