(13,297 posts)I didn't realize he not only was born there, but had lived there through 18 or 19 years old. That's a true native of New York!

(57,936 posts)Art is the artist's life, as politics, the public service of politics seems to be Bernie's life.
Public service seems to be Bernie's fate, his destiny, just as art was the destiny of Michelangelo or Da Vinci or Van Gogh.
I write this after hearing him talk about the democracy he experienced with his playmates as a child. Even then, he was interested in how people work together to achieve things.
I have two children. Before they were five or six, each of them knew the direction that their lives would take them. I have a lot of stories to prove them.
My youngest, in her late thirties, came home to look for a "book" that she wrote when she was maybe in the fourth grade or so. When she found it, she laughed out loud and said (and I paraphrase in the interest of privacy so that you won't know what her profession is) "this book contains the basic theory of my field, the theory behind my work."
I had never thought about it, but she was right. She did not have to learn the theory of her field, of her work. She was born knowing it in a sense.
I suspect that Bernie understood the human interactions that we call "politics" and was determined to serve others and make a difference at a very early age.
Bernie's political career is what religious people refer to as a "calling."
I think it is clear that Bernie has the "calling" to be president of the United States now. I think it can and will happen.
There may be surprises in store for all of us. Let's wait and see.
