What money does to media

It can be quite hard to get a sense of what money actually does to to democracy or to media coverage. Usually we only look at what really big money does to really big media. And that is perhaps not the best way to look at it. Big media is well funded, impressive in many ways, often brilliant and at least good at marketing itself to you. Most of us know our favorite media person better than some of the people we work with. Or I should say "feel familiar with" as we dont really know them and surely are not know by them in any meaningfull sense.

So when we look at big media we perhaps have a hard time understanding how much it is driven by money concerns. MSNBC has had a good run with some very popular people that most sane people tend to like and accept. And when we are told that they are towing the line because of the money it seems rather strange to us and a bit far fetched.

So I want you to listen to this short clip from a guy who is taking a principled stand against some very small attempts to corrupt his reviews:

?t=1m2s

All you need to do after listening to this is do a bit of multiplications and suddenly you have a quite accurate representation of what goes on in mainstream media.
