(7 posts)As one who is in their late eighties, I can remember Franklin Roosevelt. We were living in the Great Depression.
My father had scraped enough money together to buy a small radio. He so wanted to listen to Amos and Andy and the Fireside Chats of President Roosevelt. Many of the neighbors would come to listen also.
Roosevelt spoke of how the rich were doing well even as the working people were getting worse and what he wanted to do to help working people.
As I grew up, earned a degree in Textile Engineering, went to work, married and had children, things were getting better for working people. I was looking forward to a good life and retirement.
Then Ronald Reagan was elected, who turned the nation from the direction it was going. Things began to go downhill for working people. As time went by, they gradually became worse.
Bill Clinton became our President. I thought another Democrat and things would change to bless working people. Nevertheless, with his third way and triangulation he was not true democrat. With his NAFTA trade bill, he sent my job and my future overseas.
When I see Bernie talking, I see him, but I hear Franklin Roosevelt.
