Either you recognize the damage done by these trade deals or you have never worked in manufacturing.

What Bernie says here is precisely correct. Yet the President is actually still pushing yet another "free trade deal". Unbelievable.

These disastrous trade deals are not only bad for our economy, shipping millions of decent paying American jobs overseas, but they are also bad for the planet, as they contribute heavily to global warming. Just think - raw materials shipped out to the sweat shops in third world countries halfway around the globe, and lots of fossil fuels are burned to get them there. Then the finished goods are shipped back to the US, and lots of fossil fuels are burned to get them back here. Making products and consuming them right here in this country burns a lot less fossil fuels, and leaves a much smaller carbon footprint.

For the sake of lowering atmospheric CO2 it is in our best interest to produce as much locally as possible, in both agriculture and in manufacturing.

Besides, people need a livelihood. What alternative is there? Why shouldn't we retain our manufacturing jobs?

We need to stop this drive to reward big corporations at the expense of everyone else.

I hope the SCOTUS appreciates the unintended consequences of their Citizens United decision.
