(3,569 posts)There are no food stamps, they are on a credit card, you'd have to be pretty nosey to know that someone was using it.

(10,434 posts)the Walton family became billionaires by paying their workers so little that they qualify for food stamps and welfare. Did that **** even bother to ask if the guy had a job? Many full-time jobs these days, most, actually, do not pay a living wage.
I hate people like her.

(1,048 posts)that she is a stupid bitch. #SorryNotSorry She hasn't a clue that many people on food stamps work 40 hour jobs and do all the right things but simply either don't have the education or skills to get the higher paying job. Since wages have remained stagnant while the cost of living has skyrocketed, its hard to be able to pay for all the expenses of life and then afford food. By the way, there is a direct correlation between childhood obesity and obesity in general as it relates to the increase of food costs and low wages. The cost of produce has skyrocketed while processed foods has become cheaper. Thus, they purchase what is filling and what will last since over 85% of people run out of their SNAP benefits before they replenish. So childhood obesity, childhood diabetes rates, and overall health disparities linked to nutrition can all be traced back to decreases in SNAP benefits and basic food insecurity that this country has.
I watched a documentary called A Place At the Table that highlighted the country's food insecurity issue. Its rampant, wide reaching, and its just not possible to sustain. That wench talks about it in such simplistic terms without knowing the policy behind it. No bitch. I have an advanced degree and studied American social welfare policy and deal with policy stuff like this all the time. Thats why I hate it when these simpletons act out of line with their "its coming out of my check" BS. Sit down boo. You know not of which you speak!!

(2,841 posts)Hey lady here's a bit of knowledge for ya; most people on food stamps work long hours, sometimes spread out over 2 or even 3 jobs. Don't blame them for "taking money out of your check", blame the assholes that run Walmart and other companies who don't pay people a living wage. Stupid ass twat.

(7,318 posts)instead of the very last one you chose, as it is offensive even to other female SBS supporters like me who have had to apply for food stamps before. Let's not get down to the level of that awful woman in the video. Would appreciate it...

(7,318 posts)a 'cunt', as if we women are nothing more than genitalia (goes for 'dick', too, by the way). As if our simply having a vulva, vagina and clitoris is supposed to make us repulsive. No! The woman's words were repulsive, and while they probably reflect her psyche, they do not reflect on her gender. They reflect on her humanity. Her gender is not the source of her vitriol.
Generally
The word "cunt" is generally regarded in English-speaking countries as unsuitable for normal public discourse. It has been described as "the most heavily tabooed word of all English words",[10][11] although John Ayto, editor of the Oxford Dictionary of Slang, says "nigger" is more taboo.

ETA: I was on the jury for this. Several voted not to hide because the rest of the post was good. They suggested that a request should be made to the poster to remove the offending word instead. Knowing that it wouldn't work, I did so anyway, in order for the jurors on that alert to see that those type of requests don't work.

(2,674 posts)A lesson from the bible that I learned at a very early age. So sad, I have seen this same horrible behavior in a local supermarket, where the lady was paying for cake mix with her food stamp card and the man behind said something about it being his money she was using for something she did not need.
But remember there are lots of good people in the world.
One shinning light occurred to my husband at the supermarket last year He is retired and can sometimes look a little scruffy as he doesn't shave as regularly as he once did and likes to wear his old beat-up clothes. Anyway, he was checking out and when it was time to pay, the woman behind him told the clerk she was paying for his groceries. My husband insisted he was able to pay (about 35 dollars worth). The woman insisted on paying and replied that she'd decided to pay for the groceries of the person in front of her that day. She asked my husband to pass the good deed along. One more thing to this story, my husband is white and the lady who paid for his groceries was black.
He did pass the deed along and paid for a young mother's groceries the next time he went to the store and she was almost in tears when thanking him.

(205,467 posts)Thanks for sharing it! I was once in the grocery line behind a woman shopping with her little girl who didn't have enough money to pay for what was in her basket and she had to put some things back. I could tell that the little girl was upset and I offered to help, could have done so easily, but she refused to let me. I wasn't sure what else I could do...

(2,107 posts)There are a few checkout clerks at the grocery store that I've learned to avoid. You see, where I live, the first time you swipe your card through the machine, it doesn't go through, but the clerk hits a button and it spits out a receipt strip that tells how much is left on the card. They enter that amount, you slide the card again and it goes through. You pay whatever it didn't cover and you're gone. But there are some clerks that refuse to hit that button that spits out the strip of paper. They ask in a LOUD voice "Sir, how much is left on your SNAP card?" Or "You really should keep track of how much is on your SNAP card." Then people look. Some say things -- usually behind you as you're wheeling your cart out. Not always bad -- once a woman said under her breath to her husband that she thought that clerk ought to be fired. I thought on the way home how ironic it would be to get fired for giving someone grief over paying with SNAP and then winding up on SNAP because of it.

(8,380 posts)but using the words hag, stupid bitch, and stupid ass twat are unnecessary here at DU, as they are words used to describe women that we all hear, no matter who we are.

(18,837 posts)There were no references to her being a Christian in that video.
I'm a Christian. And I'm not going to apologize to you or anyone else for it. I know where the assholes are. It's not a "club." Christians are just as outraged and embarrassed by asshole Christians as people who are not Christians.
The same kind of bigotry you're snarking about in your post is the same kind of bigotry you're expressing by doing so.
Race, gender, sexual preference, religion...making a blanket statement on any of those grounds is bigotry.
Sorry you are unable to see that.
I hate this shit, I really do.

(7,017 posts)seems to me those most against benefits are Republicans who profess family values and a country founded on Christian . I have a bigotry against fake christians . You are correct I don't know if this woman is christian or not but willing to bet that's the answer I would hear if I asked her. Sorry I offended you .

(135,425 posts)BTW, I ended up here because your post was discussed in ATA--you survived an alert.
Barely.
I probably would have voted to hide, too. The woman is "miserable" but trying to associate that with "Christian" (or any other faith -- "A good Muslim woman" .... "A good Jewish woman," etc.) is a bridge too far.
For all you know, the man she was berating is a devout Christian, and she's a dissatisfied (Insert Religion of Your Choosing).

(6,344 posts)The truth about opinions and comments is that it speaks to who the commentator is. This woman being so angry about a family needing to live on the support of food stamps, tells us about HER:
her intolerance,
her lack of understanding,
her lack of compassion.
Her judgmental attitude tells us who she is.
I hope that family using food stamps to help them live, sees the understanding on this DU thread.
