Caller Paul tells Thom Hartmann that many of the women who dislike Hillary Clinton are really just intimidated by powerful women.

(115,706 posts)and I have always worked outside the home. And I don't like Hillary. I am not intimidated by her and do not resent her success (I have the same academic degrees she has); I just don't like her politics. Don't you think it's possible for smart, successful, well-educated women to not like Hillary because they don't agree with her political positions, instead of assuming women who don't like Hillary are sad, feckless losers who resent her success? How insulting can you get?

(111,266 posts)Oh, I'll vote for her if the party insists she's the nominee because I know we can survive one more conservative Democrat.
We can't survive another Republican.

..it but this is a really insulting, condescending comment. I'm sure you're telling the truththat this describes the women you know who don't support her, but the subtext says they are timid, ill-informed, bad parents, bad wivesthey couldn't possibly be against her because of good political analysis or hard lived values.
This is the kind of attitude/statement that has turned off so many young women and minority women to the feminism of the 60's and 70's.
I come from a strongly progressive Democratic family with very accomplished womenprofessors, writers, artists, psychologists-- and all three living generations are for Bernie, myself included.
Their analysis of her politics is is their driving force. It depresses the hell out of me that HRC may be the woman to break the glass ceilingwhen she is so much of the paradigm of the Old Boys Clubhawkish, corporate, often dishonest and entitled.
Not intimidated by her at all. Wish I could meet her and tell her a few things to her face.
Could no more support a woman just because she's a woman than I could support Maggie Thatcher.

(32,610 posts)everyone knows too much about everyone. I was just talking about my personal experience in this campaign season. I could care less who someone supports, I just think it is interesting how they fit into certain types. Naturally, the men and women who ALWAYS vote Republican are of a certain type also.

(8,175 posts)And I've worked with women who were smart and positive and got things done.
I've also worked with women who were assholes and just power hungry, and caused a lot of difficulty in working with others.
I don't put Hillary in the first group. She does not intimidate me in the least. But she does disgust me. Strong women know you don't have to act strong to be strong.

(40,212 posts)There is often a lack of sisterhood that lurks below the surface among women. It's a form of resentment that is hard to explain.

(40,212 posts)I was angry for a long time over that vote. It still troubles me. I have always thought of it as opportunistic. But, politics is messy and at the end of the day I think she would make a better president than Bernie.
Skwmom
(12,685 posts)That he is the husband of a powerful woman.
Why I think this is so stupid is because there are SO MANY reasons not to support the Clintons, that to try to say a lot of woman do not support her because they are intimidated is ludicrous. Try disgusted by their policies and how they do business.
And they accuse Bernie supporters of being in denial...

(10,007 posts)It's just not possible that people don't like her past actions and policies, they must be "sexist" or "intimidated" or "hateful."
Thus, these kinds of polemics can be dismissed without concern.

(84,711 posts)here on DU. It seems to be what she wants to project to get her elected and that she has to use a guy who went against both Hillary and Anita Hill to get her elected with her Super Pac .....well, it makes me Cringe. I'm tired of hearing about her "battle for women." I've not seen any evidence of it.
She is the Anti- Strong Female...Always Playing the VICTIM! This is Not a Strong Woman...she rides on Her Husband, former President's Coat Tails! Sure she was NY Senator...but, again, on her Husband's Coat Tails as former First Lady...playing the Victim, again.
Yes she has made connections all over the World...and maybe "on her own" she might have made some difference...BUT her Husband's Coat Tails are what she rides on. No matter what one thinks...she is running for Bill's Third Term because he is Campaigning for Her and she has stated he will be a prominent part of "Hillary Administration."
And, she has taken advantage of that.

(3,825 posts)By an intelligent, strong woman. That's fucking insulting. In all my years on this earth I know that there are men who fear an intelligent woman. I've met plenty of them. Keep this shit up and you will find out just what intimidated really means.
