Our 8th grade final exam was.., write a 250 word essay on China, Russia or Viet Nam or take him to dinner. Well, fuck that! I had an after school job so I took him to dinner in Chinatown in San Francisco. He taught me how to use chopsticks. I remember nothing else from his class but the proper use of chopsticks serves me to this day.

I don't stick my elbow in the air, and I have great control over them.

What really annoys me is that I always have to ask for chopsticks, that they aren't already with the place setting.

she saw me struggling and came over hollering and grabbing my fingers - her family was mortified (they explained she had been a teacher) but she had me using them like a pro pretty quickly

I've had dinner with friends who were quite adept at using chopsticks, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. I'll have to try again! Bookmarking...

Thank you very much, I always wondered if I was holding them correctly. Somehow I blundered on to the correct way!

But I learned how to handle Ohashi at very young age. I can't imagine eating without them!

Chopsticks and food prep done in Oriental fashion go hand-in-hand (no pun intended). Food is diced and prepared to be handled via chopsticks, bite size and manageable (although noodles still evade me).
