It seems to productive to figure out why we lost before we can start winning again.

I was just thinking of my experiences on the WP. Brutal the way topics were distorted to point fingers because that sounds like an invitation for a circular firing squad.

How bout we all agree to back Ellison, save Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, voting rights, and forget this "we go high" stuff. AND protect the filibuster and veterans benefits and the right not to be sexually assaulted. Can't we get there right away without an autopsy?

7. There is one thing that I observed last year during the primaries....

There is a book, and then a movie, called Game Change.
It is about McCain picking Palin, and the results.
Many of those involved, top campaign leaders, all agreed the book/movie was highly accurate.

In the film, a woman on the rope line fervently explains that she loves Palin because ..." she understands us. She speaks to ME..no one has ever spoken to ME before". She is practically in tears when she says this.

At the end of the film, McCain delivers his concession speech, then Palin, onstage with her family, takes 2 steps forward and the crowd goes nutz, immediately
switching from sadness re: McCain, to roars for Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!
And we get a shot of McCain's campaign manager with a look of dawning horror on his face.

THAT is what we missed.....awareness and understanding of how Palin and later Trump touched the hearts and minds of so many boot strapping people
and maybe missed how many boot strapping people there are by now.

As long as we have such deep seated divisions between red and blue states, the right will always use them to get elected, and the left will ignore them at
it's own peril.

5. Thats the problem, too many Democrats didn't want to hear any constructive criticism.

I tried to point out some areas of concern and was attacked for it over and over. We cannot afford to live in an echo chamber! Don't you see, if we sit around on DU and talk about how great she is and shout down anyone who has concerns, we get what we have now, President Trump. I remember a poll on DU right before the election where you were supposed to pick Hillary's margin of victory. The lowest percentage of victory was 2%. The average margin of victory selected was in the teens! No wonder there were some shocked Democrats the day after the election.

Bernie consistently polled much better than Hillary against Trump, but we were constantly told that Hillary was the only one that could beat him in the General. When it became apparent that the DNC had their thumb on the scale for Hillary, many here still denied it, but some tried to justify it by saying Bernie was not a Democrat. Bernie stood for what almost all of us Democrats wanted, but he was dismissed because Hillary was inevitable and Bernie was really an Independent. We got hung up on labels over policy. We got hung up over the chance for the first female President.

We lost because we refused to look objectively at our candidates and refused to even read or hear anything that didn't fit with Hillary being our nominee! Everyone on DU needs to reflect on how they decided their vote. Next time we need to allow voices we may not agree with and actually listen to them. We need to consider other viewpoints, otherwise, we live in a bubble just like the Fox viewers!

He has to come to terms with his permission to normalize islamaphobia. He paints a religion (Full disclosure: I despise religous dogma) with a broad brush the way Trump paints and that's dangerous for liberals.

It is the easiest thing in the world to criticize others when we sit on our asses and play spectator. For Christ's sake, I should be the coach of the year in both baseball and football but I didn't get the award this year again.
So, Hillary isn't perfect (and neither is Obama or Bernie for that matter) but let's see Cenk run against Trump, the GOP, the entire cable news franchise, the Russians, Wikileaks, and the FBI and see how well he does.
Go ahead…. try it.

had people with their head in the sand pretending that it would be a cake walk.

And RE "Monday morning quarterbacking," the Democrats took massive losses in state and federal elections to a party that was imploding and saddled with a clown fascist for a presidential candidate. Are we seriously not supposed to talk about how fucking inept and incompetent the Democratic party is because it might hurt people's feelings?

The Democratic party is too weak in its current incarnation to offer effective opposition to the Republicans. If that doesn't change soon, we're all going to fucking DIE. That's not hyperbole, it's reality.
