Look: we had problems, big ones. No can say it was perfect. But we were on the verge of something big.
I was in elementary school. We were herded into an auditorium, where there was a television set, to see the launch of Alan Shepard, I guess. I'm pretty sure it was that first sub-orbital man in space launch.
