(269 posts)I would, at this point, say no. To simply disagree on policy or political party would not ever be enough for me to hack all ties. Up until this election, I had many conservative and even Republican friends. But as soon as the campaign brought out the anti-Muslim remarks and shares on Facebook and the Christian entitlement, I deleted them all and blocked one. Something about Trump (many things) gave them this idea that being inflammatory and prejudiced was safe... which I find dangerous. Something about this election has brought out the worst in the people I normally disagree with on a good day. They became so arrogant and hateful, and cult-like. If you can look at a possible dictatorship/theocracy as the way to save America, even if it means millions of people will die or be hurt by it, you're an enemy to your country and your people. It's just much different this time around. I've even lost family over it, so to me this guy is capable of manipulation there aren't even words for.

(6,344 posts)It depends on how fanatical they are and what the relationship is with me.
My brother said he would probably have voted for trump if he had voted. He is on the fence about a lot of things and is open to my political perspectives.
The fanatical ones, no, no way. No way! I join with the hell-no club.

I have family members who I suspect voted for him, but I don't even want to ask.

(590 posts)With the few RW Trump people I haven't divorced, I am quite tired of trying to steer conversation away from their talking points they learned that week. They are so proud of their recitation and obviously feel superior to any liberal. Yup.
I quit talking to my neighbor who supported sniffles, otherwise, I've never had anything to do with fascists, even if related.

(2,809 posts)Some from my family and a few facebook "friends" who I'd requested to quit sending me reprehensible, racist anti-Obama propaganda 8 years ago decided to cut off all ties with me altogether. Of the only 2 Trump supporters at my work who became unbearably boisterous right after the election, one made racist remarks and was dismissed, another contractor who eluded to that LGBT Americans should be put to death had his contract cut at the end of his term. My boss is an ex-air force veteran who won't stand for any of their bigoted crap. It's part of why I stayed on as a permanent employee there.
I don't know any others. I've had contact with a few clients wearing Make Amerikkka Grunt Again hats who quickly demonstrated their impossibly low IQ's.
There's no one left in our department who wasn't shocked and appalled at the outcome of the election, is worried about having a job in 4 years and highly disturbed by the notion that Trumpeteers can throw all political correctness out the window and act like total jackasses.

(103 posts)It is near impossible to be friends with trump fanatics. They are so married to their ideology that it is next to impossible to reason with them.
