Most people have seen this on a youngster who got caught in the cookie jar. The wide eyed "who me?" look.

(2,485 posts)Yeah, that's a BIG part of the RW mantra - Almighty Reagan NEVER raised taxes.
Jack Rabbit
(45,984 posts)It is a balancing act. Maybe Reagan didn't like it, but after his huge tax cut in his first year as president, he spent the next seven trying to make up for the excess of his initial budget proposal. At least he swallowed hard and admitted that's what he had to do.
What Cantor is doing is simply rewriting history. History has been rewritten ever since the Matinee Idol left office. He was an irresponsible president who tripled the national debt to give the rich a tax break so they would invest it. And invest it they did -- at Bloomingdale's and Tiffany's.
If all tax cuts were good, the Frat Boy would have been our greatest president. Hey, guys, why don't we just abolish taxes? Wouldn't that be best of all? Who needs schools? Why fix potholes in the roads? The market will solve everything. We don't need the government to fix potholes. We just need the market to produce and sell more tires.

(12,549 posts)tax cuts raise revenue. By that standard, eliminating all taxes would have the treasury awash in cash. And anyone believing that level of bullshit should not be allowed to drive on public highways paid for and maintained with tax money.
There's nothing more ignorant or cynical than the Republican voter.

(37,162 posts)...from 70% to 50% then to 28%.
That's all they (Cantor and his "job creator" backers) care about. As far as they are concerned, the rest just does not exist.
And the better for them that it does not exist, because real-life complexity would put a bump in the Fantasy Ron personality cult they have going there. When you ask yourself WWRD (what would Reagan do?), the answer MUST be cut taxes, don't compromise, and show'em who's boss. In all things.

(1,944 posts)knowing he is out to be Speaker is definitely worrisome.
Of course, Cantor is typical of the FoxKoch sycophants who will say that the sky is green, grass blue and Reagan was the best president ever. Of course, Cantor is not speaking on behalf of the 1% - he is speaking on behalf of those that credit Reagan with their wealth and refuse to hand over 1 cent to those below them in the economic sphere.
Mussolini would be so proud of Cantor.

(6,938 posts)So the definition of "Compromise" is no longer "a settlement of differences by mutual conscessions". According to Cantor, "compromise" means giving up your principles.
It seems to me his fight should not be with the Democrats but with the Merriam Webster Dictionary.
