1. A very concise presentation...

...but a bit optimistic at the end, methinks.

The rich (i.e. the blue block, i.e. us, i.e. all-ya-alls) will not (willingly) give up a sufficient amount of carbon production within the time frame required.

All the blocks will not shift to the right (from the viewer's perspective of the presentation), they will all shift to the left. Some relatively more than others.

it can work the way he describes - with social democratic principles driving progress.

History teaches us that the rich do not cede gains to the poor EVER.

The more likely outcome? BILLIONS of dead poor people, MILLIONS of dead former "middle class" people and hardly any deaths in the upper reaches of the pyramid.

It is fantasy to believe otherwise any longer...

The future doesn't have to be a hopeless situation. We can have the things we want like peace, prosperity, good health. Which is why we pay attention to policy now to prepare ourselves for the challenges and note the efforts of those who would profit off a dystopian future. The choices have never been clearer. The rise of the RW has crystallized the struggle:

diversity, cosmopolitanism, global co-operation ( Utopian) vs tribalism and nationalistic authoritarianism ( dystopian)
protecting the environment, renewables and steady state economics ( Utopian) vs pollution, carbon fuels, extractive industries ( dystopian)
social democracy (utopian) vs the oligarchs and feudalism (dystopian)

the choice is ours.

The current trajectory of society across the globe (the frightening rise of right wing ideology across the Western world, not just here) is setting up another World War. The divisions in thought and politics are making it entirely likely that the wars will begin as civil wars within the Western democracies for the very soul of representative government. Instead of a World War with 1 or 2 active theaters, we could see 10, 15, even more, concurrent civil wars that merge into larger and larger conflicts.

The "United" States is a case study unto itself...we have the entirety of the old Confederacy STILL in lock step and opposed to the modernity and progressive agenda and they have begun chipping away at the rural areas of the Union states as well....Western Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, just about all of Indiana and Missouri outside of narrow urban corridors. The GOP is destroying places like Kansas, Wisconsin, Florida, and others and their grip on power is TIGHTENING!!

The current trajectory IS hopeless.

Immediate, massive, sustained action is needed and we on the left have become fascinated with the freak show. We had some major marches in January (all now dissipated and forgotten), some town hall outbursts in February (now assiduously avoided by congress critters) and some committee hearings in March (scuttled and back-burnered while obvious lies about wire tapping are STILL debated and discussed as if its normal to falsely accuse former presidents of illegal acts without a shred of proof or truth)...AND....Trump is still president, unlikely to be charged with anything while grifting and nepotism become SOP for the government under him. Scandal after scandal have followed him around for the past year....grabbing pussies, Russian collusion, disinterested governance, cruel and despotic executive orders and "plans"... what do we have to show for the 'resistance' to date?

WE are out of power in:

Governor's seats...
State Legislatures...
Congress...
Senate...
White House ...
SCOTUS ...

THEY are coming back for round 2 on Trumpcare...by making it even worse...and do not think for one second that the Senate will come to its senses to stop this slow motion train wreck...the ideologues are drunk with power and the possibilities of ram-rodding a seriously far right agenda straight through the congress and onto the pliant desk of the shit-gibbon.

WE are going to get fucked in the ass on:

Progressive Taxation
Environmental Protection and stewardship
Any chance of reversing Climate Change (we now need to worry about IF survival is possible, AND how many will die in the coming decades - here's a hint of who believes it WON'T be them...Got Ours Pal)
Government functioning at all
Military Spending increases (which will eventually be turned AGAINST many of us in the future)
Equal rights (and Carlin was RIGHT....are they really 'rights' if they can be taken away by a pen? They are 'privileges'...)
A nation of laws, enforced through an impartial judiciary
Freedom OF and FROM religion or religious based law

The power of the people has been usurped by the powerful corporate, military and financial interests that stand to lose in the utopian possibilities and they are NOT sharing or backing down.

On a % basis, the electorate SAYS they are center-left...on election day, they VOTE center-right and lie to themselves about it. There is no mystery about how we got here...people in general are easy to dupe and the American voters, infected with misogyny and taken in by con-men and propaganda are among the easiest marks in the world.

The choice, or whatever is left of what passes for "choice", is whether or not to make plans for alliances in the coming wars or to pretend we can avoid them by peaceful means. I know that "Peace" is a preferred concept, but human beings have 20,000 years of history with oppression, war, and violence and the ones in positions of authority and power now have access to weapons of unimaginable power and a complete lack of moral compass to stop them from deploying the worst of them all.

Pray for Peace...
Hope for Peace...
Work for Peace...

Prepare for War...

I am seriously considering buying firearms for the first time in my life.

Difficult, tough, trying, but not at all hopeless else it's best we give up now. I don't intend to, I want to live a full life.

But yeah, retaking CONGRESS (house and senate) in fact all branches is TOP priority. Conservatism is lost in the wilderness.

How long does it take you to recycle one can of soda? Ten seconds to get up and put it in the bin? Forty-three, count 'em, 43 babies were born while you did that.
Each one of those babies is going to want a can of soda, a car, a warm house, clothes, electricity, roads, land, water etc etc etc. If they can't get them, they will come and take yours.
