It was not enough to see it fail when alcohol was banned. We have been fighting this war even though it doesn't change, the black market on drugs has thrived.

Make it all legal and the black market dies. Kids will find drugs almost impossible to get. Right now this money goes to criminal organizations. Instead, taxes on the drugs can pay for free treatment programs. Law Enforcement is freed up to go after other crimes. We can reduce the number of law enforcement officers we need.

Ah, but there is the rub! Law enforcement doesn't want an end to the seizures that net them money to buy toys. They don't want to cut back. They like the excuse to target minorities and it keeps many of them from voting due to criminal records. It does destroy lives, not just the drug use, but the enforcement. It costs more because we have to pay to keep our fellow citizens locked up in numbers that dwarf other countries.
