(56,828 posts)I heard last night that the GOP lost the 3 special elections leading up to their big wave in November of 2010. So, hopefully history will repeat itself

(28,347 posts)the worry warts belong to the GOP.
For us: we have to continue to presevere, and work hard.
Ignore the naysayers, and realize there is more than one way to succeed. Good success takes time and effort.
I'm disappointed about last night's results, but then smiled at the thought of Republicans sweating bullets because they're losing ground - which is long overdue.
More importantly, the news has shifted back to Russia this AM. These victories won't give tRump much shade.

(9,350 posts)Democrats should not be too upset about these loses. Democrats have managed to keep races close in districts have been strongly red. There is a chance that Democrats can do really will in 2018 if the organize and conduct a strong GOTV program.

(6,974 posts)It's like some Dems don't, won't or can't believe that we're being specifically targeted/voter-suppressed.
Gerrymandering, voter-crosschecking, voter-purging, voter-ID laws--all run amok and ruskie meddling with Dem voting rolls, Dem data bases and who knows what ELSE in 2018 & 2020

(85 posts)More than anything is we still are completely getting out maneuvered with how the press handles things. Our message is always lost or not covered or flattened by false equivalency.
As the graphic elegantly shows, in a mere five months of Trump, Democrat candidates made giant gains in what should be untouchable districts. Five. Months. Couple this with the Russian hacking, obstruction of justice, unpopular healthcare debacle and an extremely poorly favored republican president, and the story is clear. The GOP is in serious trouble.
Message shouted all over the radio/TV and print/internet news? The democrats lost big.
That needs to change. They never should have put so much context into winning as much but instead indicated how big the gains were and how amazing it was to be competitive. Lower the bar of expectations for realistic results. And if you win, even better. But we just do not get our message out there and are treated differently.

(30,058 posts)doing this in a purple state or district would have resulted in a majority change in the Senate. We worked hard and we got ourselves out for all to see, we are working on 2018 where there is a possibility of picking up some seats. We may get some relief in the SC ruling of the gerrymandering, this would change lots of seats.
Grown2Hate
(2,012 posts)...part of the calculation in plucking these 4 out of the House for cabinet positions was that these seats were SUPER safe, and were sure to stay in Republican hands.
The face that we pressed in ALL FOUR, when normally we'd give zero national attention to these particular races, and swung THAT much in just a few months of the disastrous Trump pResidency, should give us all heart and make ALL of us look forward to 2018 with even more passion and intensity.
"When are the Democrats going to get a WIN on the board, though?". Not in these four races. We weren't SUPPOSED to be close (as much as GA-06 hurt last night). Yet, we were. We've already made a difference.
Imagine the House seats that we only lost by 5-10 points in 2016? In my mind, those are ALL in play (and then some).
We have between now and then to continue to craft the message and wake people up. And Trump WILL fuck shit up worse for his party between now and then. #RESIST
