Imminent Cultural Impact: Spielberg's "Ready Player One"

How can this next Spielberg SciFi VR-Utopia flick NOT be an epic blockbuster ?!!

If there's anything we could use right now, it would be somewhere to escape to

If you somehow missed this book, and like SF, 80's culture, or VR gaming, you will no doubt be seeing this next Spring, along with the rest of us !

Or more accurately, I listened to that book. It was narrated by Will Wheaton which was perfect

I quite liked it but I am not sure how big a splash it will make. It seemed to me to appeal to a fairly narrow generation (coming of age in the 80s) and narrow culture (nerd/geek/gaming)

I am looking forward to it

I know that maybe that's an unfair judgment to make on such a small amount of film, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book and didn't feel anything but "meh" toward the introduction of the character Wade. It was cool seeing the Iron Giant and the DeLorean, and I'm sure there are more references I missed, but it felt too busy and confusing like Michael Bay is in charge of it. I know the film has to be accessible to the general public and not just the people who read the book, but there are ways to make it interesting to both sets of people. LOTR proved that.

Also, having Spielberg attached to it is a negative for me. He and Lucas ruined the Indiana Jones franchise with the cinematic stain that is IJ 4, and quite frankly, I'm afraid he's going to interject his daddy issues into this film like he does with the vast majority of films he's touched over the past several decades.

When Tom Sawyer began...

I'll go to the movie theater for that.

Was that The Iron Giant for a second? Looks like fun for GTA players.
