I'd just spent the afternoon with several (native) Russians in Pennsylvania. Nit-picking, I know, but I've known a number of Russians and Ukrainians over the years (one in W.VA.,in fact)-first generation, if not natives. The way Trump presented it, he sounded as if he was sure that his base in attendance, was too insular and ignorant not to go along. Spy types? Not the way he made it sound in his superiority.

Of course there are Russian immigrants - and visitors - here, the same as immigrants and visitors from everywhere else. I actually visited the USSR back before it fell, accompanied my grandmother there with her peace group - they had a sister city - and met some very nice ordinary people with the same hopes, dreams and fears as the rest of us.

The obvious rejoinder to his ridiculous comment should have been a reminder of the Russian government officials he invited into the Oval Office. But nobody calls him out on his blatant treasonous behavior.

I lived in West Virginia for some years, and have a daughter who was born there. This was back when they still revered JFK and Bobby and appreciated Jay Rockefeller. Both the educated and blue collar would have run Trump out of town then. Hoopies?

Previously, it didn't matter who you voted for, you trusted the president, whoever it was, to serve in your best interests. I know that my parents felt that way. I remember seeing Barry Goldwater on with Jay Leno one time and Jay asked him about then President Clinton, trying to bait him. And Goldwater gave exactly the right answer - he said that Clinton was his president, and that was the end of it. But with Trump, he relishes in inciting and dividing people. It's started happening gradually over the years, but with Trump, he has changed the office irrevocably.

They should also have a sign denoting how many days it's been since he - or one of his clueless grown children or treasonous minions - have been in contact with Putin or his surrogates.
