While proceeding to let in thousands through Operation Paperclip. Many of the war crimes and other scandals that would beset intelligence agencies in subsequent decades can be traced directly to this decision.

in saying they wouldn't spend much time in prison. I seem to recall that it said that they were all released within 25 years of their "life" sentences since we wanted the Germans on our side in the "new" cold war with the USSR.
