was accompanying the chaplain when we had to brief the wife/NOKs about survivor benefits, rights, etc. The chaplains offered any morale and emotional help they could. It was crap duty and we personnel pukes were rotated through it quite quickly. So were the chaplains. Our basic brief was "On behalf of the Air Force, our deepest condolences and what can we do to help."

If any of us had said anything remotely like suck it up; it's what he signed up for, minimum we would have been assigned to the Outer Darkness, never to be heard of again. An Article 15, probably for the ranker.
