(9,696 posts)I didn't like the use of live cats as props, or the way they were handled.
Didn't care for the "cat lady is a lesbian" theme.
Kat Williams, well that was funny.

(19,624 posts)It's about as funny as this disgusting racist pos SNL "skit" from the past...
Dukakis After Dark
Michael Dukakis.....Jon Lovitz
Lloyd Bentsen.....Matthew Modine
Pianist.....Cheryl Hardwick
Kitty Dukakis.....Jan Hooks
Ted Kennedy.....Phil Hartman
Leroy Neiman.....Kevin Nealon
Willie Horton.....
Donna Rice.....Victoria Jackson
Jimmy Carter.....Dana Carvey
Joan Baez.....Nora Dunn

I don't understand how a normally funny and liberal leaning show goes this way, unless corporate management/sponsors issue threats to the writers.
Here is a sample -
"Joan Baez: "You're lateral disarmament, abortions on demand
Take everybody's guns away, and toss them in the sand.
Freec condoms for the kids
We'll not blame the criminals for anything he did.
For who cam say what's right or wrong, if there's such a thing as sin?
And all that really matters, is wars we lose or win.
Michael Dukakis: [ sitting on couch ] Well, thanks for coming to the party. That just about does it for the campaign. You know, I think the one thing that really hurt us is the fact that Reaganomics works. It really does. I mean, aren't you better off than you were eight years ago? I know I am. How about the rest of you? [ looks at his guests, who shake their heads in agreement ] I wish you weren't, but you are. You are better off. And there's no denying it. Well, I'd like to thank my guests - my running-mate, Lloyd Bentsen, who'd asked me to remind you he's still on the ballot down in Texas; Jane Fonda; Daniel Ortega; an, of course, my good friend Ted Kennedy. Good night. "
Oh, BTW, LEE FUCKING ATWATER was the guest of honor that night, if memory serves.
Fuck you, you sellouts.

(1,201 posts)Totally lacking any credible substance. None of those people talk like that and they damn sure aren't passive or goober acting. Seems this author won't be satisfied until the dems say Fuck you republicans as if all voters are sewer gutter sociopaths with lizard brains. I'd laugh at jokes poked at dems if they were funny or had merit. SNL is going down hill fast. Trump must have rebelled against Baldwin impersonating him and threatened SNL to make fun of dems or else. Since the majority of the country backs these dem's agenda now SNL is shooting itself in the knee.

(6,939 posts)As Will Rogers famously said, "I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat".
That is the difference between Democrats and Republicans---we can laugh at ourselves.
I hear your criticism, it is technically true and politically on-point. But also, addressing faults like Larry David subtly did in the piece conveys someone is genuine. And that is who we are---genuine.
Finally, it's a TV show. I found it funny, and also loved Tamika skewering Breitbart and the right. I choose my battles. A comedy TV show is not where I require party ideological purity.
i do not worship Democratic Party leaders, people change. Some of the most famous Democratic value people have never held political office. Worshipping party personalities is the Republican game, I don't allow them to frame the debate. Nobody on DU should.

(6,939 posts)This is about personalities and the struggle over who controls the DNC organization. I'm starting to see a division on DU. On one side, casual Democrats who support progressive values but know little of the making of the formal Democratic Party. And on the other side, those who are intimately familiar with the DNC's inner workings and the management structure.
Good luck with that. It is meaningless to whether comedy is laughed at, and the wrong venue to discuss it. The cult of personality is a Republican framing of political issues, accepting that challenge is weak.

(19,624 posts)Still not funny.
The SNL skit I mentioned in post 7 was REALLY not funny, it was downright fascist.
I have a very long memory.
I used to really enjoy SNL, and then one night there I am, expecting to laugh, and see Lee Atwater spewing hate.
Never take anything for granted.

(45,541 posts)can I get a "Welcome to DU, Comrade"? I feel left out of the camaraderie, like I'm not welcome here anymore.
SNL is blatantly liberal and dishes it out savagely to the other side. It's so easy because there's so much crazy on their side. But when they poke fun of our side, some people want to alert on me for posting this instead of discussing our public perception.
I support our leaders of course. But "Trump is terrible" is not an exciting or a winning message. While it's great to build on anti-Trump energy, we need to give people a reason to vote for us, not just against Republicans.
We can do better.

(19,624 posts)My bar for alerting is high, and this is not, imo, alert worthy.
The best reaction is, imo, to do what I would do with Fox - change the channel.

(4,976 posts)that's all i see there, so I guess it just isn't funny to me - it's just redundant and proves no point other than to berate those who are supposed to help us out the republican cesspool, but hey, maybe i'm too sensitive. So unless someone can replace the entire democratic leadership structure in the next six months, it's not the best time to act like they are irrelevant - which is how SNL appeared to be presenting them.
