(9,730 posts)Even though you pointed out their flaws, I still love the "dorks" on the Big Bang Theory. I'm just glad I'm not a straight man. Talk about "damned if you do, damned if you don't."

(8,709 posts)I've never watched the show, seen teasers, and have been encouraged to over the years because I'm a nerd and will think it hilarious, and that's from some other females who never cease to dismay me. I'm so glad that one doesn't have to look far at all to see we're drowning in misogyny.
Thanks for posting!

(45,447 posts)and haven't seen any episodes since I gave up cable tv years ago. I did cheer when I first saw this show because it is so rare to see Indian-American actors on primetime tv, let alone be a lead character. There were only a handful of shows that had recurring characters: Community, The Office, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, but Big Bang Theory really explored the character's back story and family and issues and whatever so it was deeper depth of character. It wasn't even as racist as it appears because it's the actor's real accent.
I did not notice the misogyny of it until a friend shared this video analyzing it. Ironically, it was a nerdy girlfriend who introduced me to the show because she liked all things nerdy, including sci fi tv shows and comic books. She loved this show and her favorite character was Sheldon who is the biggest asshole.
It's good that the video showed the history of nerdy misogyny and the more recent characters in other shows who manage to be lovable without misogyny. Abed on Community is asexual but definitely has Asbergers.
