The far right knows he isn't really one of them. Unfortunately for all of us, the takeover of the GOP by the far right means that the candidate must pander to the base long after the primaries have ended and probably won't be able to say anything sensible for fear of losing the refuges from the John Birch Society in order to appeal to independent voter. This is a base than could not possibly elect a candidate on its own. Remember, as bad a candidate Mitt Romney is, any of the other nine ninnies would have been even worse (meaning even easier for Obama to beat in November because they really believe all the foolishness they say).

With the selection Of Mr. Ryan this morning, the election is effectively over even before the conventions formally nominate the candidates. Mr. Ryan is the choice of the far right, and very few independents will even consider that ticket.

Well, at least Ryan is a better choice than Sarah Palin.
