Encore: We The People - Dr. Gene Sharp at Zeitgeist Americas 2011

&feature=player_embedded

His ideas and observations and non-violent actions/formula are even more relevant today than ever! His name should be a household word, imo.

To change things for the better....and that is why the message don't get out because we can't show people a plan that will work.
And all our efforts are to change some policy and not the system itself to make it more democratic and actually work for the people.

Instead of everyone getting together and putting aside their own concerns about single issues and developing a plan they can all agree to and to promote we divide ourselves up and divided we are controlled and manipulated....and always lose the big one.

Someone needs to step up and purpose that, and once the plan is agreed on all should demand that it be heard and if it does not demand an emotional issue that will turn off the public at large it can become an overwhelming wave of change...as opposed to what we are dong now....winning small battles and losing big wars.

The way I see it - it's bullet hitting the bone time!

At the risk of possibly being blasted by many here - I propose (challenge all) that there are many overall points and principals in which the Tea-party and liberals/progressives can actually AGREE upon. Though the ways in which these determinations eventually come together might be vastly different - the important thing (bottom line) is that all might agree on the basic, overall principal - and that at this particular point and time it is probably best for all concerned to just focus on the the commonalities and let the differences (as such...be that as they may) fall by the wayside in view of the *bigger picture* that affects ALL of us!!!

It just might all come down to that given all that we are up against...Liberal and Tea-Party inclusive.

Our...repeat...OUR constitutional rights at present are being whittled away by the powers that be and this goes way beyond political affiliations. I think that it's up to us to embrace our TeaParty neighbors and they in turn embrace us - in a UNITED effort/front to stand firm and say - hell no - OUR Constitutional Rights are being ignored and you will NOT divide and conquer but rather instead...we will unite despite our differences to find common ground and INSIST that this government of ours...aka "public servants" continue to work FOR US!!!!!! I do believe this is the only way to go from here on out...all things considered ~

Damn skippy!

Radical? Yeah, probably. Necessary? At this point and time - yep and yup. As citizens - it's all we can do!

There are some who will oppose any change cause they like things just the way they are....but they are few but they do influence the people in the tea party with emotional issues...the trinity...guns, gays, and god.
But those same people who respond to that some of them at least still want a governments that works for them and they can be reached.
So if progressives have a plan that does that for them they can join us...if we stick to the plan and not go after the emotional issues....which is basically what you said..and I agree with it.
And it is not radical at all really...it is defusing radicalism....taking away it's power.

for the most part - I really believe it is doable.

Especially the defusing part...(great word, by the way)

Wouldn't that be something? For a group of Tea-Partiers and Liberals to come together?

As you say - to defuse radicalism...taking away its power.

Hmmmm. This just might work!

As a staunch liberal I would be more than willing to meet with a local tea-party group to discuss topics that we might have in common.

Who knows what could come of that?

Many good things (in the end), I might suppose.

Wouldn't that be something?

But there will be many stumbling blocks and obstacles along the way.
If you just call a meeting of tea party and other left groups you will find that disruptor will also show up...that they know how to disrupt.
I think the only way to avoid that is to come out with a specific plan and to say to them..."why not this" And then making sure that no one distracts from it.

we should start thinking of scuttling that system and design a new one.

We need to watch the world because we are interdependent.

Thanks for the comments I've read so far. I hope this is kicked again.
