(12,882 posts)Can people be convinced to trust in science instead of imaginary deities? It may be too late to change things once it gets hot enough to make people see the truth.

(58,405 posts)from one my staunch Republican friends that supported Trump.
I grew up with him and I can't even begin to count how many debates we had over the years going back and forth on the subject of global warming climate change, he was most definitely not a believer, he thought it was an Al Gore conspiracy, that's what watching too much FOX "News" will do you.
I believe this is where Trump's countless lies being exposed on multiple other issues as well as climate change is actually beginning to backfire and undercut the overall Republican argument.
Just another crack in the dam.

(14,494 posts)What does your Republican friend see as a solution to this problem?
Also, has he ever discussed the potential massive migrations that are almost certain to come as a result of global warming?

(58,405 posts)I believe at this point he is more at stage one of dawning awareness that there is a problem.
A more accurate description would have been child hood friend and Facebook friend, I have only seen him in person a handful of times since the 2000s the last time at his sister's funeral.
Our debates have consisted of dueling posts on Facebook.
To be sure he hasn't suddenly become a progressive or liberal stalwart, he is still conservative in many of his other views but there has been a noticeable dearth of Trump supporting posts over the past couple of months as well.

(14,494 posts)you will be there for him if/when he further surrenders. Higher cost and shortages of food items will be a wake up call to many.
I suspect many traditional conservatives like him are thirsting for someone to run against Trump.
Have a good weekend!.......
