(27,830 posts)It's a question I ask myself time and time again. I don't get it. We know that they mistreat their warehouse workers. And I'm sure the effect of Prime - this instantaneous gratification - makes it worse. How do people justify the relatively minimal savings on items knowing that someone is running around in an overheated warehouse to get it to them a little faster, and that the same person is likely searched on the way in and out of work, and on breaks?

(18,672 posts)Wish I had done it sooner. Bezos got idiots from the working class to petition for him (I saw them at my post office in camouflage jackets) so he and other corporations don't have to pay their fair share (via a head tax) in Seattle. In the meantime, he reaps the benefits of having his headquarters here, but the people who can no longer afford housing sure as hell aren't, and many are now out on the streets.

(27,830 posts)were also against the head tax, and their opinion held more weight with me.
The fact remains that the tech companies are forcing unchecked development, straining all our resources, and refusing to pay their fair share. If we even had a state income tax, it would make an enormous difference. The quality of life for everyone except the very rich and the recent transplants making high salaries has gone down. The commute is a misery. The trash on the streets and the homelessness is an embarrassment.
So, no Amazon for me.
