(206,300 posts)We have a Paul Ryan protegee running for reelection in my Congressional district. A total of 10 Democrats stepped up to run against her - and one other Republican. Six were still running as of the June 26th Democratic primary. This is a Republican leaning district and I can remember when the Democrats didn't even bother to field a candidate. I'm hoping that this is just part of a trend!

(86,843 posts)good candidates on the Democratic side each election, we just have a lot of not-so-bright people who vote, and we only get one rep in the House. They say we're red but I call it purple since we do have a D governor and one of our Senators is also Democrat.
There's a woman running against the House rep and has been doing well, I'll vote for her in November.

(206,300 posts)As I said, they seldom even had an opponent. That was until 2006 when Kirsten Gillibrand defeated the long time Republican incumbent with the help of President Clinton. It was pretty exciting to have an actual POTUS come to this little burg and there was standing room only at their major campaign event! She was very popular here, but then the governor appointed her as senator when Senator Hillary Clinton became President Obama's Secretary of State. I worked on the campaign for her chosen successor, Scott Murphy, very smart, serious and he's local! He won his first election, but lost the second, then we got redistricted. The very moderate Democrat who held the seat retired and we've been stuck with the Paul Ryan protegee ever since. However, she's very unpopular here so I'm hoping that the "blue wave" will reach us in Northeastern New York!
