(205,500 posts)But I did post the three I did find. Did you see the one where he sang? I had hoped to find that one, too. I have to say, he was an awfully good sport!

(23,641 posts)and the singing was bizarre, but satirical at his Streisand jabs
kudos to SNL for the reaching back in honor ... could've been a rerun from last month, so it was a point

(205,500 posts)And I also appreciated that they chose that over his later appearance (2008) which involved "Sarah Palin." This one was good humored and meant a lot more than just another rerun.

(23,641 posts)but as it was I walked and flipped on the tube thinking "if it's a rerun ll know from the skits" and if don't remember it's one I've not seen ...
it was the station break shot of McCain as host... and I thought ?
he hosted SNL?
sat down to Pete Von Vleet, ponytailed, parking his vw bus diagonally across 2 parking spaces, railing against rwnj's and carving pumpkins in the likeness of the original members of Steely Dan 😆
I watched til the end 😆

(205,500 posts)And seeing that they were airing John McCain's appearance from 2002 was a pleasant surprise. And then, of course, I read it on DU. He actually was quite good and must have done quite a bit outside his comfort zone, LOL. It appeared to me that he was tickled to be there.

I sat and watched and thought ... what a day it's been 🤔

(205,500 posts)Though not a lot of people make it to 90, let alone run for office (though Jimmy Carter is still active and speaking out). But I hung in there and watched till the end. I can't help thinking that John McCain would have liked the idea. And I can't see SNL honoring Trump with a rebroadcast of his appearance (which I never did see).

(205,500 posts)I might not have recognized him in that "Lifetime movie" segment - and then there was this skit:

(37,648 posts)Not a professional entertainer, but better than most politicians, I'm sure. (Not as good as Obama, though. I mean...come on...)
But sad seeing him happy & being a sport and younger...so sad. But he lived an extraordinary life.
Rhiannon12866
(205,500 posts)Not to mention that he didn't mind appearing silly. And he definitely didn't measure up to Obama when it came to the singing part, LOL. It appeared to me that he really had fun - and this was a fitting tribute.

(768 posts)...that the actor playing the judge looked a lot like Brett Kavanaugh, the nominee for US Supreme Court Justice?
Who is that? The resemblance to Kavabsugh was almost as creepy as John McCains character!
Rhiannon12866
(205,500 posts)And John McCain did a pretty impressive job as that character! Even though I knew it was him, it took me a minute - and he was definitely creepy, despite the silly premise. He may have missed his calling!

(13,523 posts)his younger brother is an actor, so someone in the family went that direction. I saw this skit earlier in the week on DU, and youre right he was definitely creepy.

Thanks for posting Rhiannon!

(205,500 posts)That segment was posted here on DU earlier this week and it took me a bit to recognize him, LOL. He did a good job and put himself out there with humor, I agree that this was a very nice tribute!

Bonus to get to see early White Stripes

(205,500 posts)He was obviously used to public appearances, but this had to be way out of his comfort zone, LOL. I was impressed that he was such a good sport - and he was really quite good, a fitting tribute, he would likely have approved.
