I usually just post the monologue and the opening - and any political guests separately - but this was live and all related to the SOTU, so I didn't leave anything out.

I remember an old DU poll on Daily Show correspondents and Stephen Colbert won hands down! DUers particularly enjoyed "This Week in God!"

...but that was gold.

He's always been political - since The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and his star turn as the comedian at The Washington Correspondents' Dinner in 2006, skewering Bush* - but he has really come into his own with Trump - and this was a special live show - not that there has been any shortage of material!

I assume it's just a New York thing, but it vexes me.

Since it helps me know which segment is first, LOL. I started posting Colbert - and then The Daily Show and Seth Meyers - in early 2017 after things were so miserable ever since the inexplicable election of Trump and the humor helped me, so I figured that we could use some of that humor here. And his band leader Jon Batiste is really very talented. He was nominated for a Grammy and often has a clever musical comment on many of Colbert's jokes if we're listening. Turns out they've become friends in real life, remember that last year he spent Thanksgiving with Stephen and his family.

It's amazing, he's amazing. I love the rifts and intros on the show.

I like that Stehen says his name, it's very polite ; ) Also, he played someone else for so long, I took it as his way of taking ownership of what he says.

Humor is important, and Spike Lee is right about Colbert being relentless about telling the truth

I thought it was just etiquette and I don't remember anyone not doing that. I could be mistaken but I thought it was normal.

I just got around to watching these. I've only watched the monologue so far and it's great!

And it was live! I actually thought the Spike Lee interview was more telling on the issues than the morning show hosts, that's why I included that as well.

And thank you for posting all of those, the Spike Lee portion was as you said. There were just too many good ones, they just had to extend it. And they had two hours of new stuff to work with, prime material!

Ahhh, -15F this morning. But I can see Jupiter and Venus very clearly. We might see temps in the +teens today - for about an hour.

And it's been crazy here in the North Country - last week it was below zero, it was painful to venture outside and the towering snowbanks made driving tough, not to mention the packed snow on the roads. And then this week it went up to over 50, everything's melting - but I know that this is only temporary. Last year we had nor'easters through the month of March...

with a few mandatory spells in southern California... too hot down there and can't get to a decent elevation. I totally have the New England, Great Lakes and Rocky Mountain winter routines down. Trying to get through snow, unless you're gliding on top of it, is usually an energy draining trudge.

It warmed up last night, saw temps in the + teens! Supposed to be in the high 20s today but get cold again tonight. I need to get to town for groceries while it's nice.

When I was a kid, I remember nor'easters as late as May that would dump a few feet of snow. We made igloos under the snowdrifts.
