America's Forgotten Mass Lynching: When 237 People Were Murdered In Arkansas in 1919.

America’s Forgotten Mass Lynching: When 237 People Were Murdered In Arkansas. In 1919, in the wake of World War I, black sharecroppers unionized in Arkansas, unleashing a wave of white vigilantism and mass murder that left 237 people dead. At his office in Little Rock, Arkansas, attorney Ulysses S. Bratton listened as African American sharecroppers from the Delta told stories of theft, exploitation, and endless debt. The sharecroppers were unionizing to protect their livelihood from the white land owners. Because the sharecroppers went to seek justice and exercise their legal constitutional rights, they were lynched.

Lately, the nooses have been replaced with police bullets--and have now permeated the "Yankee" states too.

American exceptionalism.

We need to consider our language when 237 blacks are killed to 5 whites, it is not a "riot" it is a massacre or genocide.

The "glorious past" is only when reading school text books OK'd by the Texas Board of Education or by politicians and jabbering RW media.

Too bad we don't have Zinn's "A People's History" as required reading.

only one reference to it in a 'daytrip' book by a columnist with the Austin American Statesman from the seventies.

The black population in Burnett and Llano counties were burnt out in ONE night.

That history gets hidden and we historians got to keep digging to get it out. This has been the first Black History month for me I not only got educated but I got my eyes opened.

Two years ago the "klan" marched through town, and a week or so around that someone burnt a cross at a black community between Marble Falls and Kingsland.

Racism is rebounding.

There were riots near what is now Ferguson, Mo., the riot in the video in Arkansas, and in other neighborhoods due to economic jealousy on the part of whites and the rising KKK. The riots were all instigated by whites, known in the press as "race riots."

Were a result of increased white fear of AA WWI veterans returning home with their service weapons and an increases willingness to defend themselves. That was certainly the case in Tulsa.

I've written a play set in 1920 (Blood Boundary) that leads up to the Greenwood Massacre (formerly know as the Tulsa Race Riot) and in the course of my research, discovered many more of these 'race riots' in the USA. Tulsa was the only city in America that had segregated pay phones.

(I am originally from Arkansas)
Around the year 1900, whites got together and chased all black residents of Paris, Arkansas out of town, and they never came back. I don't know if any were killed during this. Much later, I looked for news reports online about this, and could find nothing anywhere. I was told about this by my mom's uncle. When he told me, we happened to be at a campaign rally for Orville Faubus. this was in the 1950s.

those are limbaugh stations and they all deny white privilege and racism while making excuses for any national racist event of cop shooting of unarmed african americans.

limbaugh the other day attacked liberals for classifying 'normal' crimes as hate crimes. all those stations attacked trayvon martin and mike brown as 'thugs', called BLM a terrorist org, attacked kneeling athletes as unpatriotic, and yelled 'white lives matter' , etc. they also have blasted tthe country with 2 decades of anti-immigrant hate to sell voter suppression legislation - and now we have trump and the wall

how ironic most of the athletes those kkk radio stations depend on are black.....

all those 88 schools need to be asked what they would do if the kkk or putin or trump bought the radio station they were broadcasting sports on

they are supporting modern KKK radio
