in junior high school he and a friend were looking at a container of hydrochloric acid. One guy said "Do you think its real?"

The other guy said, "Nah, they'd never let us around that stuff." And to prove it stuck his hand into the jar.

He was left with a functional hand but badly scared.

I did something almost as stupid about a year later. I knew what ammonia was but I didn't recognize the chemical formula for anhydrous ammonia and decided to sniff it to figure out what is was. Almost passed out before I finally caught my breath. In the sixties they let us play around with some dangerous stuff.
