It"s is based on a doctored 13 - minute video released by the Sunshine Movement, a group led by and composed of AOC former campaign staffers. The encounter, in fact, was 20 minutes long and, seen in its entirety, sheds a totally different light on Feinstein and the engagement. The edited video is worthy of a James Okeefe Production.
The piece shamelessly manipulates and uses children as props in a hit piece targeting a Senator who has a long and sterling record on environmental issues.
Feinstein did not, as the doctored video implies, walk out yelling at the kids. She departed amicably after encouraging the kids to run for office, offering one of them an internship and mentioning her own recently released climate change resolution far more detailed than AOCs nothing burger Green Deal a proposal that is as substantive as a beauty contestants desire for world peace.

(9,865 posts)...does not make it much better. She does need to be totally bold, totally rad, totally brave about the 10 years we have to save the planet. As someone in the Senate for 30 years---I'd say her "way of doing it" might be part of the larger system that created this climate disaster to begin with. Time to do something different.
Plus, she was totally condescending. She'll be gone and these kids will be suffering badly.
Was at Di-Fi's office years ago to advocate for the ACA when it was just getting started and I have to say---we were treated rudely and with complete dismissiveness. It was shocking to us. Seemed it was just an attitude towards the hoi polloi, even though supposedly we were on the same side. I think she didn't want to commit until she was sure it was a safe position to take.

(11,989 posts)okay, they edited out all the stuff that was good, and it's unfair to show just the bad stuff, but that doesn't negate that bad stuff was there. Well, you didnt vote for me" really bristles in these days of Trump. Poor choice to correct the speaker on a technicality.
You're okay with maligning someone with half a truth ... and half a lie. I'm not.
By your standard, much of what Fox news spews is okay.

(11,989 posts)Instead of you telling me what I'm okay with, how about I tell you what I'm okay with?
I'm okay with criticizing someone for something wrong without excusing it on the basis that they also did things that were not wrong. Whether you saw them or not.
I'm not defending the edit. I'm saying that, no matter what else she said, she did not handle that well.
And I'm saying that I thought the SNL skit was funny. So those are my standards.

(637 posts)I owe you an apology. After all, no one wants their words or actions edited out of context.

(11,989 posts)I appreciate the humor, but I think you know, you did not edit or take me out of context, rather you assumed things I didn't say. Not the same thing.

(1,201 posts)Wonder if you hate FDR's new deal. Feinstein was extremely condescending and hateful and the "nothing burger" is her climate change resolution response to the GND, which would never have even been written had AOC not written the GND first. We have run out of time. We need bold action and she has never been one who takes the lead with bold action.
Read the GND
I'v also read
Feinstein resolution - bet you haven't
The IPCC 2018 report - bet you haven't and
Bet you don't even know what the IPCC report is.
Feinstein's resolution is far more in line with the IPCC report
Feinstein began writing her resolution early in the fall of 2018 after reading the IPVV report
The GND is a vague, ill-conceived, politically disaster. Last week all 47 Democratic senators co-sgned a climate
resolution in order to avoid the political embarrassment of having to deal with the GND. You probably don't know that either.

(6,189 posts)Great, to the point SNL skit.
As my mom use to say... the truth hurts!
The truth is you others are okay with a doctored video that
totally distorts an encounter using James O'keefe ambush, hit piece tactics
maligns a person who has a stellar 30 year record on environmental issues
maligns a person who over a 30 year period has a yearly 90 - 100 rating from the league of conservation
She was targeted for having prepared a climate change resolution that is far superior than the ill conceived, vague, politically disastrous GND.
The truth is ... I find all too many people here on DU who are no different than the political right in their penchant to hear what they want to hear, listen to what they want to listen to and live in their own echo chamber.

(16,375 posts)You only want to hear the nicer parts of Feinstein's time with the children and in your penchant to hear what you want to hear and listen to what you want to listen to, you dismiss the fact that she treated those children dismissively. This is nothing at all like O'Keefe's hit jobs. The Senator couldn't simply be nice to the kids throughout. Instead, she chose to argue with them, which is ridiculous. Members and staff know how to handle requests they disagree with because they do it literally every day, no matter how bizarre the request -- and they get some real doozies.
It's a simple routine they all have down pat. Smile, ask questions, don't argue, ask for the material the people have brought and say you'll read it carefully. I don't know if the kids met the Senator on a particularly bad day for her, but she didn't follow the routine she's probably known since she before she became San Francisco's mayor. The fact that some Democrats insist on blaming the kids or calling them agents provocateurs is lamentable.
