(2,698 posts)These are hard working men who cannot grasp reality. But, hey, they live in W.Va. and have good paying jobs -- where in hell else are they going to make a decent wage in that State?
The most troubling thing is that their "good paying jobs" are going away, inevitably, and will not be replicated in the W.Va. economy. No new mines will open, fellas. What will you do then?
Just as troubling: TPUSA doesn't give a rat's ass about these men or their families. The Right Wing liars are just using these poor saps for their own political purposes. TPUSA will still be around long after these men -- and their families -- are on the dollar-depleted welfare rolls, dependent on medicaid, and wondering what the hell happened. In fact, at that point they will have become the enemy to the economy and TPUSA and the whole damned right wing will be propagandizing about the enormous waste of Federal money being used to support these lazy, loafing, takers.

(5,803 posts)for these guys is not to inform themselves so that they have a realistic understanding of the forces impacting their preferred vocation.
Instead, the object is to conjure up bogeymen to serve as scapegoats so that they can feel aggrieved and blame their perilous situation on something besides reality and the actual factors responsible for the impending demise of coal.
Also, IIRC HRC had a proposal to direct money to their state for retraining and career assistance. Oh, no, can't do that--they'd rather be deceived by a BSing con man.

(5,175 posts)Genocide, mass murder, and slavery also built this country. Should we stick with those as well? (One really has to feel sorry for those guys. As stated before, their industry is dying and they refuse to adjust. This is a typical position where 'manly' guys are the norm. They just cannot handle the thought of change. We won't go into their lack of compassion for all the changes their political/social position has forced on other people [usually of a darker complexion], but their lust for the path to destruction in the name of 'pride' is really sad.)
