It's usually the animal that dies when humans act foolishly.

Hope not.

DON'T FUCK WITH ANIMALS.

In recent years there have been several incidents where a confined, normally wild animal, reacting in a natural manner to an intrusion, has been destroyed simply because a parent/caregiver has been inattentive and ignored warning signs. It's heartbreaking; especially since the child has not usually been as badly harmed as would have happened if the animal had been actually vicious.

Don't lose your cools...is only an expression, but holy shit. Stupid ass adults. I've been in a car just 10 feet from bison in Yellowstone, and they are NOT to be screwed with. I wasn't even too sure we were safe in the car; but the whole line of traffic was stopped while a herd walked it's way along and across the road. Finally some goofy woman got out and shooed them away.

These are some big ass animals, and no telling what they did prior to having him charge. Damn lucky she was fine. They need their heads examined...and a good horse whipping.

No excuse in either case, since in such a situation someone should have been looking out for the younger ones. I would think the normal reaction of any mature person, even if not a parent, would be to immediately "shield" a child. I used to live near a bison preserve ( in the east and comparative to Yellowstone very tiny). I loved seeing them, but always preferred to stay in the car in areas where they were loose. It looked as if the tourists were just there to see the geyser, so is it normal for wildlife to be roaming around?

that a uniformed ranger can stand there and tell them not to do what they did and they will totally ignore you or curse you for "ruining their vacation" then blame the ranger for their getting hurt.

in closer and closer to get a photo or video in the parking area. The bison stamped and tore at the ground and snorted like a bull. My son said "Dad! Turn on your video, he's going to charge at that father!" We were yelling at the families to back off and move away. I forgot about video, but now wished I had a clip like this showing what NOT to do near a wild animal at that park.

Also: look how close the person taping is to the animal! They are dang lucky THEY were not the one tossed in the air!

And yes, the hapless girl 'stuck the landing'. Like a toss of a coin, though, she COULD have landed on her head...with a broken neck.

"The park service cautioned visitors that animals at Yellowstone National Parkare wild and to always stay at least 25 yards from bison, elk, deer and moose"

...Bison, elk, deer, and moose. On at least 4 occasions I got within 3 or 4 feet of these animals at state parks and national parks. And somewhere in one pile of pictures or another, I got pictures to prove it. (except for the moose, it was too dark to take a picture.) the moose waked right by a fence in Yellowstone Park 40 years ago, and stood there while campers at the camp site went to the fence and fed it. From what I saw they fed it fruits and vegetables. It seems the moose showed up regularly the campers said. I just got close and watched the weird scene. And yes, it was a wild moose. Oh, I forgot, once a mountain goat stuck his face on to the car window for a moment, yes I got that picture too...somewhere..About the buffalo, it entered the camp site in South Dakota one morning, at about 7am in 1973 and just stood there. My tent was about 10 to 15 feet away, and I stood about 3 to 4 feet from the bison and took pictures. That was not too smart.

...Just an add on..once when I was teaching I walked by the auditorium and two 15 year old female students were fighting over some boy. They were throwing punches and yelling at each other. So I helped to brake up that fight. (how? I grabbed one of the students who was fighting, and another teacher grabbed another and pulled them apart, and we stopped the fight) You see, lots of things I did were not so smart.

True story:
A couple of tourists drove their cars into a herd of bison, refused to back off when called by a ranger and were confronted by a bull bison.

A very annoyed male bison went over, hooked his horns under the front bumper, tossed his head and turned the car turtle. (Dodge Dart, I think) They are that strong. Same idiot went on to complain that the Jenny Lake campground--Tetons-- to complain to his congressman that it was infested with "rats". Yep, chipmunks, golden-mantled ground squirrels (cute).

Then how a family smeared honey on their twin girls' faces so they could photo a bear licking them!

and have no common sense........................except to pull out the phone and record for old time sake...................................................

Remember one time walking along a road path along a creek in the Big Piney region of the lower Tetons with family and we heard this crashing sound, along the creek bank , mule deer doe comes running out down the side of the creekr embankment followed by a puma, chasing the mule deer doe.
Then saw the big old front paw come up and strike the doe on the hind quarters, doe, fell down in the creek waters, jumped back up and started running up the creek, then the other paw came down, knocked it down again, and then the doe jumped up again and ran up the creek again, and then turned up the side of the embankment and that mountain loin was just chasing that doe.
My only time that I have ever been thru a National Geographic moment...........................it was absolutely stunning.....................and it lasted in less than 30 seconds.........................

when I was a kid. It was less crowded then, but still had its share of idiots.

People were especially stupid around the bears. I remember one woman actually getting out of her car and offering a bag of potato chips to a bear. The bear charged. She made it back to her car.

Some of these people need to be arrested and banned from the park.
