Shooting at Quebec rally leaves one dead

One person was killed and another seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire during the victory speech of Pauline Marois, Quebec's newly elected separatist premiere, who was unharmed. Police said early on Wednesday that a 50-year-old man entered the hall and fired at least one shot, wounding two people, one of them critically.

The shooting will just polarize the environment more than it already has.

So much for tough gun laws.

nor facilitated this. The perp could just as easily used an SUV, a waffle iron, a shovel or a bow and arrow. All are on the same plane of effectivity and implementation as the sporting implement that was used.

Sad for the victims of this violence. I don't know if Canadian media will give us any more details than this.

Don't they have laws preventing the names of the accused being released until after they've been found guilty in court?

As police investigate the shooting incident that occurred during Quebec premier-elect Pauline Marois' victory speech, the suspect has been identified as Richard Henry Bain.

CTV News has learned the 62-year-old suspect runs a fishing camp near the ski resort Mont Tremblant.

Police said one man was killed and another was injured when gunfire erupted at the Metropolis concert hall on St. Catherine Street in downtown Montreal late Tuesday night.

CTV Montreal reports that Denis Blanchette, believed to be a freelance technician hired to work at the election-night event, died of his injuries.

Todd Van Der Heyden says Quebec authorities are now confirming Pauline Marois was, in fact, the intended target of the shooter.
