(6,664 posts)Living in rural northern Wisconsin, we depend on NOAA weather. NOAA does a superb job.
Will be letting my senators know that Myers is a non-starter.
Thanks for posting, Rhiannon!

(206,086 posts)Here in the North Country we need to take our weather seriously and I had no idea all that was happening behind the scenes! John Oliver nails yet another important issue that we hadn't thought enough about till now!

(63,221 posts)He did a very good job with this, and it just made me angry all over again at how Trump nominates people to lead government offices that they are determined to destroy. I despise these sick, greedy mofos with a passion. This is another major reason why Trump has to go. He is determined to destroy the government from within.
Myers is the last person that should be in this position, which is probably why Trump picked him. "In 2017, Myers was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Myers's nomination was controversial because he lacked scientific expertise (in contrast to previous NOAA leaders) and because of concern over Myers's financial conflicts of interest, and as of April 2019 Myers's appointment had not been voted upon by the U.S. Senate. In 2018, a federal investigation found rampant, pervasive, and severe sexual harassment at AccuWeather, and determined that the company, under Myers's leadership, ignored the harassment and retaliated against victims who complained."
Thanks for posting Rhiannon! I am glad that John is getting the word out!

(206,086 posts)Like someone who is fine with pollution to head the EPA! I am so sick of this, and turns out he did the same thing regarding NOAA - I had no idea about exactly how this works, but John Oliver did an excellent job of educating us, as usual! Let's hope that this nomination continues to be overlooked until Trump is out on his - ear!

(206,086 posts)I know that not everyone here has cable - or even TV - and most don't stay up as late as I do, either, but the political comedians are must-see-TV for me, these days, and I always learn something new from John Oliver...

(14,648 posts)We don't have any TV, and we also turn in quite early. The only way I can get through my day is to watch the political comedians. Your posts start my day out. And, yes, John Oliver is a gold mine of information! His video on immigration was another excellent one.
