Patent troll suing biotech company to stop producing coronavirus test-kits.

Patent-trolls buy patents, copyright-trolls buy copyrights. Then they sue people on the flimsiest of reasons for patent- or copyright-violation. They drag the case out, they make litigation as lengthy and expensive as possible... And then they offer their victims to settle this out of court.

Fortress Investment Group LLC, a notorious patent-troll known for frivolous and meritless lawsuits, is suing Biofire over a patent for a technical procedure how test-kits work, threatening an injunction and knowing fully well, that NOBODY can afford for this lawsuit to play out. Biofire cannot afford the money, the public cannot afford the time with the current coronavirus pandemic going on.

"Pay us, and all of this goes away."

Take it to trial. A jury would empathize with the need for testing IronLionZion Mar 2020 #4
It could take years until this goes to trial. There are so many ways to drag this out. DetlefK Mar 2020 #5

a functioning government, under emergency powers could fix that in a heartbeat if it had the wherewith all to do something to help speed up the testing etc..

You can file a motion for the court to consider all sorts of things in the trial and every time a motion is filed, the whole trial is essentially paused until the court has ruled on the motion. And that can take about a month. Per motion!
