cloth masks are mainly to keep you from spreading droplets through sneezes and coughs, keep you from touching your face, and to keep the large particles from getting on your face. Filtration is mainly used in surgical masks.

If you really want a filter, some folks are using coffee filters. But as the article says above, homemade filters make it really hard to breathe.
