At first glance I thought of the Ju 290, a long distance reconnaissance plane from WWII. I’m reading about them now and the later war efforts to support the U-boats. Too little too late, by that time the convoys were too well protected. I hadn’t thought about it before but it goes into a lot of details about the technical aspects of navigation back then. It was very challenging to search the Atlantic, find the convoys and lead the U-boats too them. The allies had made great progress by that time and losses of U-boats exceed the amounts of shipping they sank.

I like this guys videos on YouTube.
