Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - 6/12/20

Last edited Sat Jun 13, 2020, 01:12 AM - Edit history (1)

Monologue:

Radley Balko on the Future of Policing

Washington Post opinion journalist and "Rise of the Warrior Cop" author Radley Balko joins Bill to discuss the potential changes coming to America's police forces.

Larry Wilmore & Matt Welch: Dogwhistles, Defunding and Democrats

Comedian Larry Wilmore and journalist Matt Welch join Bill to discuss President Trump's return to rallies and the political impact of the Black Lives Matter protests.

Cardiologist and public health expert Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian interview at 34:48, but this video won't last:

New Rule: Democracy's Safe Word

Bill wonders if we'll ever see a crack in the "red wall of silence" that keeps Republicans from acknowledging President Trump's outrageous behavior.

"We're at the Julius Caesar moment here where the Republic becomes a dictatorship with real talk about calling the military into the streets. Will this finally make Republicans say - I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that?"

I don't know why they sometimes leave out segments and other times they don't, but I try to include as much as I can.

I'm tired of people criticizing the protests largely from people who are not activists or protesters deciding what they should be saying or doing. It would probably be helpful to have a BLM activist or protester on the show but I gave up watching his show a long time ago.

He also blamed "reckless" lock downs for protests. I believe the openings are reckless and from what I understand a 2nd wave could be worse because a lot of people won't feel like doing what they did when the virus first appeared.

It's part of one of those "bootleg" videos (as one DUer has called them) which won't last, but I thought it contained important information. I don't know why they left out that segment on the official site.

Bill is a real pessimist, even more than usual. The lockdown must be getting to him or he wouldn't be putting it down all the time. His opinions about diet are valid but I don't agree on his position on lockdowns. Places that are opening early are already seeing negative results.

They did the same thing 2 weeks ago and this issue is the most pressing facing this country. It could be that the quarantine and isolation is getting to Bill. When I was looking for a video of the doctor's interview, I ran across a site which postponed all his scheduled stand-up appearances. He seems to have had more trouble than some of the late night hosts performing without a live audience. I think the audience footage has helped, but he's used to getting out there and performing live.

I agree with his points about diet, as well - and we know that this is something which would never be encouraged from the current administration, unlike the leadership we had from Michelle Obama. But I do give him credit for bringing in doctors to inform us about the pandemic. Even when we had those "briefings," the actual "experts" were sidelined by Trump and his rambling nonsense.

Wearing it as a show of solidarity at the request of the Black Caucus was a nice gesture.

Now taking it to the tailor to be remade into a necktie or muffler could be seen as highly inappropriate. Wearing it as designed was a lovely gesture and whiners need to STFU and find something real to be upset about, like cops turned into an occupying army by Nixon.

And while I certainly don't agree with Bill on everything, I thought that tonight's New Rules was one of his best. I think that most of us have been asking the same question, is nothing that Trump does or says a bridge too far for Republicans??

Good show! I missed the segment with Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, which I really wanted to see. I am so bummed that I missed it. Tried to find it on You Tube and couldn't. Anyway, the rest was really good. Thank you so much for posting! I always look forward to this every week!

I looked everywhere for it and that was the best I could do. I don't know why they didn't include the doctor's interview. Same thing happened with the family physician 2 weeks ago - and those are the ones we most need to hear from. I'm sorry I couldn't find a better source.

I appreciate the fact that you posted as much as you did. These videos are tricky. I just wonder why some of them disappear more quickly than others.

But I was a little disappointed with what he had to say, think he needs to check out The Dog Whisperer!
