COVID-19 Risk At GOP Convention Shrouded By Florida Data Opacity - Rachel Maddow - MSNBC

Rachel Maddow points out that unlike most other states, Florida does not publicly share hospital capacity statistics as part of its coronavirus reporting, which makes it harder to assess the risk of holding the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville. Aired on 6/12/2020.

2. And Trump and his minions don't care, or even more scary, don't believe it

He believes his own words, that this pandemic is a "hoax," despite all the overwhelming evidence and the advice of experts. But then he couldn't care less if people die.

3. Maybe if he got it, it won't be much of a hoax...than on the other hand...

If TRUMP dies, the Republicans … will blame the Democrats. Fox News will say it was a Democratic assassination or some such crap and there will be more dead from the violence...

I am not leaving my house till November.

4. I voted in the New York primary yesterday, filled out my ballot to vote by mail

The Republicans are such hypocrites on this, Trump himself voted by mail 10 out of the past 11 times, but he keeps insisting that it can be hacked or leads to "fraud" - and now he wants to get rid of the Post Office! I'm watching the repeat of Bill Maher right now and that's exactly what they're talking about. Larry Wilmore just said that it's much tougher to kick someone off the voter rolls if they vote by mail.

Governor Cuomo made sure that every New Yorker got an absentee voting application, even specified the reason to check off if it's because of the coronavirus. And I'm fine with voting by mail in November, as well. It's much less stressful than waiting in line and it gave me time to look up the local judge candidates who I didn't know enough about.

5. We have vote by mail here in CA ...

I am not sure if everyone here will take advantage of it, on the other hand, the governor Gavin Newsom may make it happen so no one will have to stand in line and wait.

6. That's what happened here, too. Governor Cuomo sent every New Yorker an absentee application

And I was more than happy to take advantage of it. The primary was supposed to be at the end of April, was postponed to June 23rd. It was very easy and much less stressful, no travel, no lines, and plenty of time to put it in the mail.

8. MAGAts will be MAGAts

They don't want no scientist, doctor, or health agency telling them they can't assemble and worship the guy who held a Bible against protestors in Washington. Many likely believe he can stop the spread of COVID-19 at their rally the same way. Suppressing their right to assemble to save them from themselves ... how successful will that be? They'll just get all worked up and find a bigger venue the next time. I'd say let this play itself out because that's what they're gonna do anyway.

9. The danger is another surge in cases will overwhelm hospitals and endanger medical staff - again

Not to mention any innocent person they encounter. But I realize that's the last thing that they're thinking about. As you said, they're totally deluded.

Let them all contract the virus.

I want them all to be required to sign waivers stating that they will not seek medical aid for ANY condition henceforth, whether the virus, broken limbs, heart conditions. . Nothing.

11. That's the thing, a sudden surge resulting from these foolish crowded events

Could strain hospitals, put medical workers at risk again, not to mention any folks that these fools encounter. And yet again, it's all on Trump, who doesn't care as long as he has his audience.
