It is a safe haven for them. The Gov. Scott went to the Villages to sign a law expanding "school choice." AKA more money to charters. I taught at charters and when this happened my school bused several students (during the school day) to the villages. As they got off of the bus, Scott's henchmen handed them pre-printed signs supporting school choice, charters, and Scott for Senator AND CHRISTIANITY. When I found out I went straight to the Principal. He went out and waited for the bus, so he could talk to the rep from Charter Schools USA that had organized the trip and he blew up at her. The school ended up in the paper, and the Principal got a personal call from the Osceola superintendent of schools. I was in the office, and it was not a friendly call. My Principal was/is a Republican, but he knows right from wrong in this case. His next move was to call the VP at CSUSA and yell at her for quite a while, the person who took the students was this VP's daughter and it was the VP's idea.
