MLS players take a knee in solidarity with Black Lives Matter movement

Not sure how many MLS fans exist on DU but soccer/football/futbol is my favorite sport...And MLS is by far the most "WOKE" American sports league on all fronts of equality! Yes, it has room for improvement like we ALL do but I'm proud to be a fan!

...Last night was the first night back since the COVID-19 stoppage & this happened...

I believe premier league jerseys even have a patch on a sleeve now. Not sure if they still have Black Lives Matter on the back as well, that may have changed.

Yes the EPL still take a brief knee at the start of play & their uniforms have a BLM patch on the shoulder...And that is awesome!
...However, if you haven't seen the above video last night was MLS first game back & they did it for 8:46 with every player of color from the entire MLS surrounding the pitch with their fist raised! Very powerful!
...Not only that the uniforms have a large blank spot on the back where the players, especially white players, write in names of black victims they've learned about or are connected to.

Just thought I would bring attention to it & I sure hope other American sports follow MLS example!

...When I was watching it live last night I thought it was going to be similar to to the English Premier League & the players would take a knee for few seconds & things would move on. However, when I saw so many players of color I recognized who I knew were from many other teams across MLS & were NOT PLAYING in last night’s game circling the pitch in those black shirts & one black glove my heart began to race!!! There was NO PLAYING of the Star Spangled Banner but instead 8:46 of DEAD SILENCE as the players of color held black gloved fist in the air while the white players took a knee!!!

...I was SO PROUD to be a MLS Fan!!!

...MLS already supports Pride Month & each team’s supporter groups go all out at each game during Pride Month with flags & banners! IMHO...MLS & National Women’s Soccer League or NWSL is far ahead of all other Pro American Sport Leagues.

...I honestly thought this event would’ve got more attention here on DU???

...But then again I expect my fellow Americans to appreciate Soccer “The Beautiful Game” as much as I do but it’s not the case!🤷🏻?♂️Although, soccer is more popular in America than its ever been!!
